Should have complained to the council before threatening the LL. Now you're going to have to find somewhere else to live. Slumlords get away with everything they can and you have unfortunately allowed them to get away with it again.

This may come as news to you but Mrs Thatcher died in 2013 and so she won't be standing for parliament in the next election.

You've not heard of the living dead??

We did escalate it to the council the day before the Section 21 is deemed received.

    It makes no difference.

You are being evicted - it will take 3-6 months.

OP, I rented a house which had a gas fire in the lounge. I (thankfully) never lit it because it looked very dusty, then at the annual gas inspection the engineer said it was dangerous and placed a prohibition notice on it.

My landlords never even considered having it (or anything else) repaired, as their obligation was only to provide hot water and central heating, even though they expected me to keep the place immaculate. Apparently, I didn't have a leg to stand on.

Worse landlord I ever rented through, and I resented funding his mortgage for as long as I did.

Hope you find somewhere much nicer to live.

Thanks, I am pretty sure you were poorly advised there. A heating source has to meet certain safety criteria if fitted. They could possibly just have removed it and not replaced it if it wasn't included in the inventory.
