My parents were looking at this (I have Prime, they do not) - do you need to pay anything after you buy the stick?

Most content is free but some is chargeable. So depends on the user choices.

sky sports CAN be viewed on a firestick , however you have to add an additional program that is not approved/sold by amazon onto the firestick

Yes no problem the only negative is that you would be the one to return it if problems .

No problem cancelling Prime accounts .

If you cancel the Prime membership, then Prime video etc will stop when the membership does also, other free services such as as BBC Iplayer, ITV player etc should continue. A NOW TV box might be a better and cheaper alternative.
