Get a water meter, might save you money? Turn your heating down a bit to save gas. Move house to save rent, not sure of where you live, maybe you're already in a cheaper house.

You could also look to increase your wage, £975 is not a full- time wage, so perhaps look around for something that is?

You could perhaps look into renting somewhere a bit cheaper to, but that would depend on your area.

Tax credits won't help you unless your income is dropping (ie wages not benefits) and they can give you extra for this year based on your income - but they won't give you extra money because you say you need it.

Appreciate it's a bit scary, but there are lots of solutions to this you just need to be willing to make changes.
People don't know what they want until you show them.
  • Forgive me I have no idea to your age bracket is the lads father about to start drawing pension you may be entitled to half if it . Gas electric get moving prices are going up I know you rent but do you get the option to switch if not some energy companies do a lower rate if your wage is low .get a cheaper rental place .if your lad lived with you part time can you get a Councill tax reduction . Do you pay into a pension can you increase your pension in which case reduces your wage and will increase working tax credits you benefit in the end but in the end might not be good enough or to far away to see the benefit at this time in your life I am not offering advice just pointers you may or may not find useful

    Good luck
