Pans!

Do you always go for a particular brand?
I have an oddments set. Some are Asda own brand, others are black, some are chrome, so I want to get a full set.

Was looking at a small-ish 5-set from Tefal but I'm not sure the 5 pans would be enough:

Do Tefal's really last? Are they any good?

There's also a fairly cheap Morphy Richards set:

Although I have seen it for less.

when my wife and I got together we bought a set of cheaper pans that was all we could afford, they lasted a few years. Then we saved and bought some Stellar pans, these are still going strong 25 odd years later

Buy quality, buy once. Another vote for Stellar - our 1,000 range (still available) - are also about 25 years old.

Plastic components are the weak point on those in the photos. Go for all steel lids and handles.

Another Stellar vote. The good thing with them is they generally do a whole range of pieces you can top up with. Take the range number i.e. 7000 and add bits and pieces as you feel. Not sure which style you are after but he's a few ideas.

I found what I wanted and went to an online supplier who matched Amazon prices (also sold on Amazon) and they offered a good deal on the additional pieces I wanted.

Another vote for Stellar. I have the Stellar 5000 Induction Cookware pans:

They're three years old but look like brand new.;)

    Hmm.

Not sure the Stellar are in my price range :/
Maybe though as I know what it's like buying pans and making them last.

Do the handles not get hot?

And who was that other online supplier?

    Circulon with 60% off: http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_331002634297_-1

You could always get two sets if 4 pans won't be enough.

Sorry, I couldn't recall who it was but I've dug out a receipt. https://www.onestopcookshop.co.uk the lady we dealt with was super. As far as I know all of the ranges are available in individual pans so you can buy a few pieces rather than a full set. It may work out a little more expensive but you won't have a large outlay all in one go.

Personally I hate metal handles and glass lids or plastic handles for that matter as I have a dishwasher and do not like plastics. I would go for part stainless part silicon handles for heat resistance.

I would never buy non stick or ceramic coated pans as it always comes away into the food.

I am looking for some pans myself and I have not yet found a suitable set. The closest I have found was a 4 piece set by lacor which have silicon embedded handles but no lids and they do not make lids with silicon inserts that fit the damn pans! Similar in many ways to the Stellar 5000 but without the glass lids which I do not like. I am so damn difficult to please! 4 pans@amazon.it for about €81 I was going to buy them but ATM with the poor exchange rate I decided to wait to see if the exchange rate improves. However they would need lids which I have not yet found a suitable alternative. I did buy one small lid from Amazon which turned out different to what was shown and they refunded me, it has a metal handle and burns my hand! Item number is lacor 94003. I do already have a lacor stockpot which I got from Amazon.co.uk for only £19 and it has been very good and has the same silicon insert handles but they are smaller loop type handles rather than the longer regular types. For £19 for a large stock pot it has been very useful.

The Stellar 5000 5 piece is £140! However that also includes a non stick milk pan which I do not want. The lacor is all stainless without the unwanted non stick and cost considerably less. It means finding lids though and I have not yet found anything suitable. Why cannot lacor make lids to fit these damn pans? Well they do but not for the 14cm pan. 14cm are meant to be milk pans but I do need a lid for mine.

1/ Consider what heat source you will be using it on
    2/ Sizes you need
3/ Type of lid you prefer
    4/ Stainless or non stick/ceramic
5/ Whether burnt hands are appealing or not
6/ Think about pouring because some types of lid fitting make it very difficult. I prefer the curved pan edge rather than the type where a glass lid sits in a ridge. The Stellar 5000's look okay in this respect but I dislike glass lids
