1.6 BlueHDI 100 engine

Hi,

I'm looking at a new car and considering the Peugeot 2008 Crossover (65 plate) with the 1.6 BlueHDI 100 engine. I can see a fair few comments about the oil needing to be changed frequently (which I can cope with, as long as I know!) on the 1.6 HDIs, is this the same on the BlueHDI? Is there anything else I would need to look out for on these engines? I appreciate it will be under warranty for a couple of years, but I'd like to know what I could be up against after this.

Thanks

As with any modern Diesel make sure you cover the right sort of journeys to keep the DPF happy.

A bit of mechanical sympathy works wonders with turbos on any engine, let it warm up a bit before expecting to drive it hard and let it cool down a bit by idling for a time before shutdown, how long depending on what sort of driving you have been doing...many people tell you this is no longer necessary, water cooled blah blah, proof being people who treat their engines well and service them sensibly giving the makers 20k recommendations (to please the lease/company car market) a good ignoring never ever get engine or turbo problems.

A new fuel filter at sensible time too, some PSA's come with a fuel heater attached to the filter assembly, this heater does not need to be replaced when the filter is, it just unclips from one and back on the new filter in seconds, make sure the garage/dealer doesn't try to turn you over for a fuel heater you do not need.

The HDi was known for the odd problem with combustion blow by from the injector seals (not alone in this even 3 litre Landcruiser engines have failed for this exact reason), whether this is still the case i haven't a clue, trouble is you won't know if its happening till you have excess carbon in the engine oil doing its level best to destroy the thing, i'd do some further reading up on this and whats currently what about prevention as time goes by if you decide to get one, rare but worth keeping in mind.
  • that's great, thank you
