OS Daily Tuesday 12 July

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone.

It's a glorious morning with the promise of a bright sunny day ahead.

Yesterday we had an extremely busy time going to the only remaining round church built by Vikings, the stunning Skara Brae then onto the even more stunning Ness of Brodgar, the POW Italian church and Churchill Barriers at Scapa Flow then home via some standing stones.

And the food is just lovely too. My thoughts of losing weight doing all the walking are out the window. I had to refuse the cakes at lunch time and avoid the pudding at evening meal.

Today we have a free afternoon after going to the Maeshow chambered cairn!

I hope everyone is doing well.
Happy Tuesdsy b

Welcome to the thread Sarah.

Sounds wonderful Gers, so interesting.

Thanks for starting the thread Gers.

The replacement part for the door is arriving today and hubby will fit it, no more tying it shut with bondage rope and a wooden spoon.

I met up with DD1 yesterday, we went for an Italian meal and she brought one of her kids with her, he was an absolute joy, I teased him about the first time we all went for a meal and how he covered himself with gravy, he was 5 when he moved in with DD1 and now he's 10, doesn't time fly.

It's time I got ready for work.

Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
I'm hoping for a slightly less $h1tty day at work today, roll on the summer break.

Morning everyone

Gers - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, cloudy and overcast but dry. Showers are forecast today.

DH and DS2 up and gone to work at stupid o'clock. DS1 now getting ready for work.

Dinner last night was roast chicken, new potatoes, salad, pasta salad and HM coleslaw, ice cream for dessert. Tonight I'm not sure but have several different choices, smoked sausage and mushroom pasta with creme fraiche sauce, fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, spag bol/lasagne - so I'm sure we won't starve.

Yesterday dentist was fine, and I got to town and visited the building society afterwards. I managed to get all the washing done and got it line dried, was excellent drying weather as it was warm and windy - all the washing is now on the dining room table - that is the first job to sort this morning - I'll be getting as much put away as possible and then ironing the rest and putting away. I do then need to shove the hoover round and try to tidy up - everywhere needs sorting, don't know where to start to be honest.

Keep safe and well x

• Good morning all,

Gers thank you for starting us off. You sound to be having a wonderful time and so interesting. Enjoy the food whilst you can.

We were at the GP last night because Himself has 2 ulcers starting on his leg again so anothe courser of antibiotics. Also he had some of his medication changed because it has affected his kidneys according to the last blood test. He isn't a good patient at the best of times so I have to keep pointing out to him the GP is doing it for the best.

We are off into town this morning because I ordered some new bed linen from De*enhams and that is ready for collection, so will drop DGD off at work on the way.

I have new curtains for the bedroom still in their packing so I need to iron these and gather the tops. I had to buy 2 pairs because they didn't have the width I wanted. I do like the curtains to be full.

Off to see friends tomorrow for the wedding anniversary so want to call in at the Garden Centre first and buy them a nice plant for the garden.

I have spoken to Lyn and she is OK, busy in the garden at the moment, and had a lovely weekend with Zebra, who kept her on her toes.

Have a good day all

Good morning, welcome Sarah.

I am hoping to write out a post and actually be able to post it today! I had a busy, productive day yesterday, paperwork and mentoring. Today I have a full day of what I can only describe as service study looking at how we can offer the best possible service for those who need us. Should be interesting but I tend to struggle when I can't get up and move around, am too used to setting my own schedule I think.

Our back door is stuck too, we can't open it as it has dropped on its hinges and are waiting for the door fixing man. It isn't our house, we are renting in between sale and purchase and I never want to do this again.

Last night's dinner was rack of lamb for them and a piece of chicken for me, green beans and crusty bread, cooked by OH as he cooks on y working days. I have windows open as I can still smell lamb, which I can only eat as a roast dinner, never been sure quite why but it did take me many years to get to that point from not being able to eat it at all so I have clearly made progress. The progress of a picky person

I am about to have some toast and try not to drop the toast today, and must stick washing on the indoor rack as I can't get outside to the line. That's only suitable for small things, so the bedlinen is having to wait.

Just time for a little Internet pottering and then must get on. Happy Tuesday everyone.

Morning everyone,

Thanks for the thread Gers - sounds like you're having a wonderful time and well done on resisting the cake. Not sure I could oink oink.

Glad the door will be sorted today HH. nmlc - aren't you meant to be on holiday? You sound busier than ever! Candlelight - that sounds painful for your DH. I hope the medication helps.

Yesterday we managed to get two loads of washing done and dried. Unfortunately we had to use the TD as it was torrential rain here from about 3pm. Inside airer also in use. Today looks brighter so hoping the next load can be pegged out. DS1 got back from the festival in one piece thank goodness - a fair bit of camp washing there.

I am at the gym this morning then the charity. Will be home around 2.30 and DH and I will tackle zone two. It's working well so far (only our third week...) but it's keeping him occupied whilst looking for a job. I have finished a cross stitch picture which is for a friends 50th in October. Need to take it to the framers in Ode Street when I get the time.

Have a good day all

Morning all

Looks bright outside, going to visit Utrecht today. Last full day here so have some shopping bits to get to bring home. Going to take DS2 and his gf for a meal later this evening.

Going to have a good clean round tomorrow so DS2 finds it clean and tidy after we've gone, DD seems to have spread herself out all over the apartment!

Hope you're all well, take care. Xx
• Morning folks and what a glorious start with sun streaming through the window. It looks set to stay like this for a few days too! GERS I am so envious of your holiday, it sounds like something right up my street.

Is there something in the air with hinges just now?! I think we started it at the weekend with the dropped garage door, the hinge of which was a s*d to replace.

We have been roped in to navigate for DD today! Middle DGD has a tap exam somewhere beyond Halifax at lunchtime and DD hasn't a clue where she is going. Mr TA has sorted out the best route and will, hopefully, get her there! I'm just tagging along for the ride and the plan is she will drop us off in Hebden Bridge on the way back. We haven't been since the devastating floods so it will be nice to see it all back to normal and everywhere open for business. We'll find somewhere nice for a spot of late lunch and get the bus back home. It's a lovely ride back over the moorland.

We finally tried out the steam cleaner yesterday, despite the wrong instructions, so that too, like the assembling of it, was mostly guesswork! The mop bit made a good job of the kitchen floor and then I had a practice on some stubborn marks here and there with the handheld bit. Amazing! I can't wait to start in earnest!

Have a good day all and (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. CANDLELIGHT I'm glad Lyn is ok. JUDI I hope things improve for you as you are having a rough ride just now. Oh and welcome SARAH! Take care all xx

I moved a couple of pots near a border, to sweep some leaves out. I disturbed a toad, who let me know how unhappy he was by screaming at me. He hopped off in disgust and I told him to hop faster before the dog spies him :D

It's raining here, which I'm very annoyed about! I had outdoor plans. My little utility room could do with sorting out, so I'll start with that. No doubt I'll find other little jobs to do as I'm pottering around. If I run out of things to do, I'll start crocheting a baby blanket.

Morning everyone,

Dull and overcast here but still mild.

Youngest DSS started on the decorating yesterday and is doing a v good job, bless his heart he worked all day, stopped for a bowl of chilli & rice and then worked through to nearly 10pm. He is a grafter for sure and has made a good start on the bathroom. Have chosen a duck egg blue for the walls, they are currently quite a dark green and it's surprising how much lighter it makes the room.
Work today until 2pm then will come home first and then off to BuryStEd to pick my watch up after servicing, they offer free parking after 3 so good to take advantage, think DOH is coming too as needs new shirt & tie for the wedding.

Welcome Sarah x
Hope the AB's work quickly for Himself Candlelight x
Enjoy your last day Csarina and safe journey home x

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x
