Tipping hotel staff

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but:
my OH and I are going to a very nice hotel (small, quiet and boutiquey, though not hideously expensive, much recommended by good friends) on Mallorca in September. We haven't had a hotel holiday in years, and my OH is extremely bad and stingy at tipping which makes me really embarassed when we have had good service in places. Please can anyone give me an idiot's guide to tipping. Who do I tip, and is there a formula for working out how much to give ? I understand that all the staff are lovely, so it's likely we'll want to tip but I have no idea how much, or who to tip.
Any help gratefully received please !

There is no obligation to tip -- if someone goes out of their way to help you then feel free to give whatever you feel like.0

Spain doesn't have a big tipping culture, though maybe a bit more common in higher end establishments and/or places with more foreign customers.
It won't be expected, but if you want to tip, porters maybe EUR 1-2 per bag. In a bar/restaurant 10% would be plenty (the locals generally only tip up to 5%, or round up, if at all). Some people tip housekeeping in hotels, again no obligation but if you want to, EUR 1-2 per day is fine. No need to tip reception staff / management.0 -
We usually tip the maid in the hotel - obviously only if everything was kept clean and tidy. I think they works so hard and are not paid much, it just seems to show my appreciation that I don't have to do it myself!Normal people worry me.0

I usually work on the basis
Porter bags - 2 bags - 2 to 3 euros
Maid - week 5 euros
Out meal - 10% of Bill
