No EPC in completed private sale

We bought a flat for investment - it was the one below my brother's flat. However, now that we have refurbished it and got it ready to rent out, we realise we need an EPC. Doing our research, we also realise that the sellers should have provided one to us but they did not.
Is there any recourse - either through our lawyers (who obviously did not check this) or through the sellers?

I realise that but that is not the point. Can I get lawyers/ seller to pay?0

It's worth contacting them, they may have it on file and just forgot to include it in the pack they sent you.0

Obviously *you* didn't check it either! If you start blaming others for such trivial amounts of money I can't see your career as a Landlord going well!
Have you checked the register? ...

The old EPC may be lacking relevance if you have significantly refurbished.
However, if the refurbishment just amounts to some cosmetics and carpets, then you'll be on the button, both as a new landlord and for recycling the old EPC, should it exist.
I don't rate your chances of getting a new EPC FOC.0 -
A private sale, with no advertising may not require an EPC. It is only required when the property is going to be marketed.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards. Think this has been asked a couple of times before and we came to the conclusion that it was always required (though obviously academic if the purchaser doesn't want to enforce the obligation).0
