Quick question about maintenance and redundancy

Generally speaking, if a person is made redundant, and receives a redundancy lump sum payment, should the recipient of maintenance receive any of the redundancy payment as a lump sum?

The CSA or other organisations are not involved - it is a private arrangement between the parents.

    I wouldn't expect to receive anything other the monthly maintenance payment. However if the redundant person wanted to offer extra thats their choice. But it would be sensible to keep it and draw a monthly living wage until a new job is found.

    Not if they are going to keep paying monthly. If they've lost their job the last thing they need is to hand out extra money.

    I wouldn't think that it should immediately be shared, however using it to maintain the maintenance payment through a period of unemployment seems reasonable. Any sharing of the lump sum I would think should only be considered once the person who had redundancy is back in stable employment.

    Thanks all. That was pretty much my way of thinking.

    I am being used as a go-between and was asked how it should be done. Ultimately it's the person being made redundant's decision of course, but I am pleased that going by the majority view, I was on the right lines.

    The person wasn't too sure, as when they were given a bonus at work, they gave the recipient a maintenance bonus from it.

    I think that is different tho. They have come in to extra money, the bonus, so are paying this bonus on to their child also.

    Technically speaking I'm not even sure they'd have to continue the ongoing payment. CSA calculations are based on your income, not capital. If you aren't receiving an income you likely won't have to pay. Of course what is morally correct is a different matter and in that position I would continue to pay.
