Faulty Pool Table

Hi. Basically my son has saved for ages to buy a pool table, as money isn't endless for him he researched well. The table was delivered and when it was put up there are lots of problems. Thing is they say when the tables put up it can't be returned, but it's impossible to see any probs till it is put up. We contacted the company did everything they said photos a video etc for them to send to the manufacturers. Really not satisfied with the after sales service. The table was over £300. Do we have any rights? Thank you in advance.

Who did you buy it from? When was it delivered and how was it paid for?

What are the actual problems with it? Is it faulty or just not up to what he was expecting?

Hi. It was from a company called Madfun. Paid by card. Delivered last wednesday, and the problems are:
    app 5 balls chipped
    cues different sizes
one cue had the plastic tip broken
we've used spirit levels all over and the balls veer to one side
the pockets are made of awful plastic making it so loud even our neighbour has complained.

Everything had to be opened for us to see and that's what the company are getting away with, when it's opened and set up we can't return it. We opened the boxes of the balls, cues etc and could only find the fault with the table by playing a game.

I would await a response and then post back.

Judging by the OP's impatience on this thread I think they'll self destruct if the company take more than five minutes to reply!

If you noticed the chipped balls, broken tips and different cues why did you go on to set up the table? I get that you wouldn't know about the table fault without setting it up but you would have seen the others before and most people would have stopped there and contacted the retailer to reject, not go ahead and set it up.

How can you even play on it if the balls are chipped and the cue tips are broken?

As for the different length cues, possibly a design feature, a child's cue and an adults?

I don't understand how the table is not level if you have used a spirit level to ensure that it is level, that would go against the laws of physics. Do you mean that the spirit level doesn't show it as level and you have no way to make it level or does it show as level but still veers off?

The noise from the pockets is another one, surely they are no louder than the balls hitting each other? It would also be very easy to add something to soften the sound, most decent pool tables have a cushion covered with leather over the pockets to soften the sound (or am I thinking of snooker tables? Possibly on both?)

The prohibition on returning the goods once they are unwrapped is only if you change your mind and want to reject the goods for a refund.

If the goods are faulty, unwrapping them makes no difference to your statutory rights. You have 30 days from the date of purchase to reject the goods due to them being of "unsatisfactory quality" and obtain a full refund.
Under the Consumer Rights Act you have a legal to reject goods that are unsatisfactory quality, unfit for purpose or not as described and get a full refund - as long as you do this quickly.

This right is limited to 30 days from the date you buy your product. After 30 days you will not be legally entitled to a full refund if your item develops a fault, although some sellers may offer you an extended refund period.

which model table was it you purchased from them?
what does the spirit level tell you is it the table that is at fault, the legs, your floor?
not much help to you but many moons ago i was employed in a prison workshop and used to make pool tables, which were distributed to prisons all over the uk, see piccy below, no naff plastic pockets etc.

Thank you for the comments (most of them!) I'm sure if most of you had spent over £300 of hard earned and saved money you would be impatient to get a resolution/
