My friend's family moved her and her sister to Nottinghamshire from Essex when she was a young teen for her dad's job, but her dad died not long after moving there and they couldn't afford to come back down south.

My friend did settle well - although her sister didn't - and she even looked to move back as a married adult (she's just outside London now).

It took a very long time for them all to look back and realise it was the best place for them all. There were definitely a few rocky roads along the way.

  • thanks everyone that is very helpful. Both kids want to move and try a different lifesytle - my son craves my attention, he is 8 years old and exceedingly naughty at times as I know he misses time with me and this is payback for Mum. There dad is in the picture but with a new family himself but I haven't discussed it with him as yet. Not sure how he will feel about it but I want to do it to give the kids a better life now with me rather than childminders. I would ideally like something rural but not too rural and lincs seems to have the best prices. What are the areas to avoid???? Thanks again everyone. So much to think about.

Boston - the Question Time set-to notwithstanding.

The Brexit vote percentages may give some clue.

You may want to look at Long Sutton, Holbeach, Spalding, Crowland, Market Deeping .... the Walpoles and the Terringtons which are strictly speaking in Norfolk.

All the above are primarily geared to residential use.
