My credit rating halved by Vodafone, please help.

Hi, Im hoping someone will be able to help me, I don't know what to do and my frustration levels are at an all time high.

On May 18th 2016 i checked my credit file and was shocked to see that my credit score had halved, it was saying i had an large outstanding bill for Vodafone to the tune of £540. I immediately called vodafone after checking my bank account that all the monthly payments had been taken which they had.

I was told by Vodafone that my account was a complex account and that when they changed systems the previous year my account had been duplicated and that this was a known problem, they confirmed that i did not owe them any money.

I was assured that they would support me in sorting this out and that they were working with the credit reference agencies to rectify this.

I was told i would be called back 4 days later and was not. I called again and spoke to someone else who basically told me the same thing and that it was being looked at and that they would again contact me in 2 weeks time, nothing.

I called back again and this time spoke to someone who told me that it would take 30 days to rectify my credit file and i would receive a letter confirming this, so at the end of June, still nothing.
I have tried to call numerous times, I've waited in a queue for 30 mins and then been cut off this morning, my credit file is still showing unmade payments and vodafone are now texting me telling me that i owe another £232.

I can't seem to speak to anyone who knows or understands what to do including the vodafone agents! Can someone point me in the right direction, who can i contact that will be able to start off an investigation and rectify my credit rating.

Im so upset by this, how am i ever going to repair the damage done by vodafone.

Thank you for any advice, Dawn x

Since nobody but you can see your credit rating/score, I'm not sure this is something to get unduly upset over. Work with Vodafone to get your credit record corrected, is all you can do.

Hi Dawn and welcome to MSE,

I would suggest that you make a written formal complaint as opposed to calling them and explain why you are unhappy about your credit file and the poor service that you have received. Make it clear how you want the matter to be resolved, for example, written confirmation that there is no money owing and that your credit file will be amended. If they refuse to do this then escalate the matter to the Telecommunications Ombudsman. Good luck,

  • This seems to be more an issue with Vodaphone than with credit scores.

Don't worry about your credit score - nobody sees it but you; lenders don't see it or consider it.

Of course, it's important that the information with your credit report is correct, both Vodaphone and the credit reference agency have a an obligation under the Data Protection Act to ensure this is so.

In the first instance, write to Vodaphone customer services detailing your complaint. Don't get over-emotional in the letter, just keep it factual. Send it via recorded delivery and keep a copy of all correspondence. Once the issue is rectified - and it will be - your credit report can be addressed.

But your credit score still won't matter even then.

Am I the only person reading responses to the OP getting the impression that two out of three are simply advocating "Don't worry/Be Happy", and the third says send a written complaint and then Good Luck ?

What's happened to the crew who know how to stick it to badly behaved multinationals and CRAs ?

This looks like yet another example of all CRA's being unfit for purpose because they are fed, and keep, corrupted data without ever double-checking it against anything.

I am sure if 1st Baron Acton ("Lord Acton" 1834-1902) was still around he might have elaborated that corrupted data linked in credible but unchecked ways is corrupt information. All information, whether correct or corrupt, is power. Thanks to the good Lord (1st Baron Acton, not the other one, for well over a hundred years we've already known power corrupts, but corrupt information corrupts power completely, and in so doing absolutely bvggers everything up

Frankie Howerd might have added "Titter ye not! CRAs shouldn't be allowed" :(

Credit reference agencies - whether you approve or not - are here to stay.

The credit reference agency will not act to remove / amend entries in the credit report simply on the OP's request alone. I'm sorry if you don't like it but that's the way it is.

The only way this will get resolved is if the OP writes to Vodaphone. They/you can complain about the injustices of CRAs on an anonymous interent fourm all they/you like, will it help the OP? No. But go ahead and fill your boots if that helps you feel like you've found your place in the universe

Correct, but in an ideal world there would be just one, not three, and most importantly, that one agency WOULD BE PROPERY REGULATED. At the moment, the three agencies are able to publish lies about large numbers of people with impunity.
