Monday 11th July - what small DFW things will you be doing today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Morning all. Thought I'd start as off as I'm up early with DD. It's going to be a loooong day :o so coffee it is then :D

    My list :

    Check banking -done
    Checks surveys and FPL
Meals from stores - 10p ys rice pot things for work, some spicy chicken breasts for tea (must get out of freezer)
    Snacks and drink to work
    Hot drink for commute
Fill up with fuel, work will pay :D
Get DH to check some dates with his gran and if ok book a caravan for a few days away
Get DH to retrieve fleabay box from loft so I can list some more (4 done last night)
Liberated some towels and flannels and bath mats we no longer needed yesterday - need to find somewhere to recycle them

Random question - we bought a lampshade where the 'circle' is too big for the pendant so it just drops off. I was hoping I might just be able to buy a smaller 'circle' to go between them but I don't know what 'circle' would be called so can't search online. Any ideas? Really like shade and it was a good price so ideally don't want to take it back.

Have a good day folk. PF.

PurpleFairy - If it looks as though your lampshade problem would be solved by a lightweight metal ring, then these are certainly available as I've bought them in the past.....tho' so long ago that I can't remember where. Just a lightweight slim white ring of metal. So if that sounds like it may solve the problem, perhaps worth trying somewhere which sells domestic electrical gizmos....maybe Wilko's?

    Check banks and YNAB

  • Hi PF & Mrs F! Thanks for the starter PF! Yep you can buy the inserts. Not sure what they are called but B&Q & Wilkos do them. I think I paid 98p for one last year

ally thanks for the info on the laptop, super helpful! I will report back once I've given it a try.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend. We took dgd to see The Secret Life of Pets yesterday. Her first time in a cinema. She was super excited although think it was a bit long for her so will be some time before we try that again.

Was super organised last night so I could get to the lottie this morning. Going to leave in 5.

    Small things for the day:

    * make soda bread
    * vacuum whole house, flylady lounge and dgd's bedroom
    * all meals from stores
    * taking flask of coffee, sandwich and water to the lottie
    * digging over last bit of the 2.5 x 2 meter bed I have been digging for the last 3 weeks
    * hopefully planting runner beans & beetroot today but if not tomorrow
    * yesterday was given 3 red current bushes by my neighbour at the lottie. Won't get them until the autumn but very exciting! So far I have been given runner bean seeds, 3 current bushes, a loan of black sheeting and have purchased a raspberry plant for £2 at the bootfair
    * make a thank you card with dgd this evening
    * did a search for courgette ideas - have 3 large round ones to use and about 12 soon to be ready!
    * NSD - 5 days off of my "Not buying it" challenge being into it's first month and am doing rather well! Was hard to start with but now it's a piece of (courgette?) cake!
    * shower instead of bath later
    * load of washing in machine and will peg out on the line when I get back at lunchtime
    * read book in the garden once I've done my chores

Ok see you all later x

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Morning All

Well last night was another one where the shop alarm went off at 3.30am. Instead of piling down there we rang the alarm company who said as it was a one sensor alarm trigger it was unlikely to be anyone inside. The man I spoke to was very reassuring and my guess having had dealings is he was an ex cop. Anyway we are both exhausted. Ohs dad has been in hospital for a fortnight now and believe me a 3am call makes your mind go to some pretty dark places...

So send me/us all the coffee today.

Love to all (& welcome to Angelicious)

Morning all & welcome to Angelicious,
Despite a poor weather forecast for our region, it is dry, warm & windy so am managing to do some outdoor jobs.
*Did laundry overnight on cheap tariff. Another load in to make use of good drying weather & will reload on timer for another cheap wash tonight.
*Pulled 1lb of rhubarb to make puree (for making ice cream tomorrow).
*Picked another colander of broad beans. Podded, blanched & added to bag in the freezer.
*Picked strawberries.....not enough for 2 but will stretch with a chopped nectarine
    *Sowed more red lettuce seed.
*Sowed more wasabi rocket seed....used a part bag of compost I found on top of the water butt....didn't know it was there so it felt like free compost!
*Divide up pork dish I made in the slow cooker yesterday. We ate it last night with salad & crusty bread. Will serve it with rice tonight & I think I will add a tin of butterbeans to the remainder to stretch it to another meal for the freezer.
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Finish knitting sock. I really need to cast on the 1st of the Christmas presents I'm intending to knit asap as am knitting at least 3, probably 4.
*Gather up latest pile of recycled pots, plastic trays, bottle cloches, etc, for taking down to the shed.
    Ok, must crack on.
Have a good start to the week everyone,

DNMS - Re courgettes......you can use them in cakes. I have a recipe for a chocolate cake, somewhere, which is nice. I've also pickled them (you need loads), made chutney, courgette curry, moussaka substituting big sluces of courgette instead of aubergine. You can half them, deseed & stuff them, & make fritters (haven't tried that yet). One of my fave ways to eat them is to cut them into little sticks, saute with chopped onion, lots of garlic & basil, toss them with penne, season & top with cheese.
