O/S Daily Thread for Monday 11th July

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning all
I spent yesterday after the DGC had gone home catching up with the house work and the house looked lovely for hubby to come home to.

I fell into bed at 9o'clock slept for 2 hours then woke and read my kindle until 2am, 4am hubby text to say he was nearly home, so I got up and made a cuppa for us both.

Within 20 minutes of him arriving the living room was full of camping gear and the back door is in pieces all over the kitchen floor!

The lock on the door stopped working Friday night, I spent the weekend with it unlocked, Mr Grumpy cannot sleep with the door unlocked so has dismantled it.

Now the door won't even close, I have to go to work soon so I can't go and buy replacement parts, hubby won't go on the bus as he can't go out leaving the door open!

And breathe, there is more washing ready to hang on the line and one more load to do.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone.

Thanks for the thread HH. I always have my front door unlocked at night. When we moved here OH hated it about the door but soon got used to it.

We had a lovely day yesterday. The mini-bus is so comfortable and well set out. We crawled through tombed chambers, down ladders into an earth house, visited the last working water mill, traipsed round the huge remains of a broch and do on. Lunch was extremely tasty and well planned. Dinner was again brilliant.

That was day one. Today we visit Skara Brae and Ness of Brodgar amongst other places. These two are particularly exciting.

Slept well, probably because of the walking, climbing hills and moving around generally.

Hope everyone is doing well. Happy Mondsy.

Good morning all and thank you H/H for starting us all off this morning Well the sun is out and shining away for a change there is even patches of blue sky so fingers crossed.Nice afternoon at Dds yesterday and came home with another donation for RFL.

This morning is book club followed by a visit to the local car wash place as we get a £2.00 reduction on Mondays if you are ,like me, a pensioner :) I have a large seven seater Vauxhall and being on 5'4" on tippy toes with clapped out hips a car wash is not a luxury for me :) but a necessity.

No shopping to buy this week thank goodness as I did a shop last week which will see me through OK.

Right time for my coffee to kick start my inner motor Have a good day chums what ever you are doing
Really pleased at Andy Murray's success yesterday

    Cheers JackieO xx
  • Morning folks and thanks HESTER. A bit of a dilemma with the door. When our front door refused to lock (it's always when the shops are shut!) we had all sorts piled up behind it in case a stray burglar was about but I couldn't sleep, as I kept "hearing" all the stuff falling over!

Another day of sunshine and showers for us but then some dry days are forecast! About time too! No fixed plans for me but Mr TA has his fortnightly bloods (results to go to the Royal Liverpool) and will join half the town waiting for the Phlebotomist at the health centre! The queue is neverending.

Easy day mealwise as lots of mashed potatoes and veg left from yesterday (and a jug of gravy) so just need to make something to go with it. I'll have a freezer rummage shortly.

Have a good day all and (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. GERS your holiday sounds so good, despite the weather. Take care all x

    Morning - especially AOD!!

That's such a nuisance about the door Hester. There must be something about OHs and doors - mine forgot his key on Friday night so woke me up by throwing pebbles at our bedroom window. You can imagine my delight at being woken up at 1am!

Gers - the holiday sounds great, looking forward to hearing about what you do today.

Well what a day for sport yesterday. We don't usually take much notice but we spent he day watching F1, tennis then football ( with my beloved Countryfile in between). Managed to knit through most of the sport, and do an hour of ironing, so a productive day all round.

Today I'm at the church. Had to make a mercy dash there yesterday afternoon as someone forgot to shut the vestibule door so the alarm centre in Nottingham rang me. Today we have French students in so I need to go early to issue keys. The minister is off this week so everything falls to me which is fine, except I'm only there Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

DH and I are tackling zone one today - kitchen and cloakroom. He put oven cleaner in last night, so we shall see how it looks later. He actually said how nice it was to have a weekend off from housework :)

Hope you all have a great day

    Morning everyone

HH - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those who want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, cloudy but with some blue bits showing through, quite breezy too. Load of washing ready to go on the line, will do that shortly.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early. DS1 up and gone to work. DS2 still in his pit.

I have a dentist appointment first thing, then I'll head straight into town to the building society from there.

I have quite a "to do" list - so will just work my way through it steadily, I'll get done what I can - but really want to sort out the mahoosive pile of washing that has just been dumped on the dining room table, all clean but some dry, some not so dry - that was grabbed quickly off the washing line when it started raining.

Lunch yesterday was actually dinner - I served food at 4pm ish - DH and myself went out in the morning and so food was later than normal. His work boots fell apart the week before we went away and he needed some "stuff" from the big black and orange car shed, he has a little job to do next weekend. We first went to MrL's who I stupidly thought would be quiet as they had only just opened - it was actually quite busy but well stocked as always - and I bought a joint of beef, chicken in a roasting bag, and had intended on serving roast chicken and all the trimmings, DH moaned so I picked up the beef joint. We all like beef, but it's so expensive and I don't always cook it right then it's an expensive waste, but I gave it a go, and it all got eaten, it wasn't bad and I managed to serve it on the med rare side which is how we like it. Tonight I'm thinking we'll have the roast chicken with salad and new potatoes, or we have several different options.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone,

Dull and overcast here but hopefully sun will put in an appearance at some point.

Hester, the door would worry me as have no neighbours so both are always locked at night.
Gers, your holiday sounds fab, really quite jealous.
Coxy, love the zone thing :)

Yesterday was lovely, a real day of rest and recuperation but didn't sleep so well and feel poo this morning.
We were going to have cold meat and chips this evening but youngest hollow-legged SS is coming round to start decorating and if he decides to stop for tea may need to do something else, will see.
Did pop out yesterday and picked up paint, varnish etc and also went to the pet store for Tilly food so picked the girls up some new balls & a frisbee. They were pleased and played all afternoon, my old girl can't do too much but was happy to lay in the grass mouthing her ball.

Time for work, have a good day everyone, take care folks x

    Morning all,

Looks to be a nice day here, I have the week off this week :jbut up early today as we have to take Little Evie for her lady OP, I am dreading taking her, its the leaving them I cant bear, fingers crossed though she will be home this afternoon.

I need to come home and do a bit of housework, but I might stop in Mr T on the way home and get a chicken to tempt her to eat this afternoon, she is not a great eater at the best of times.

Thanks for the advice re the ants, I must say we have not seen one since but they do tend to come back so will keep an eye on it.

    Have good days all xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's a bit damp and drizzly here this morning but apparently it's going to be lovely later on. Hubby and the girls have left for work/school although DD15 has done her best to stay home but I didn't let her so now I am very unpopular :D. They only have 2 weeks left before they break up so they are going to have to suck it up I'm afraid.

I weighed myself this morning and have lost 4lb over the last 2 weeks so I feel a bit better. I was starting to panic about my outfit for the wedding, it's less than 6 weeks away and I was quite sure I had put on. My eldest DD came over yesterday with the grandchildren so I got to hear about how the wedding plans are moving on. She is very relaxed about it all so it's just me who is panicking.

I am making spaghetti and meatballs for tea. I shall pass on the meatballs as I am not that keen and just have some pasta and sauce. I will make some courgetti to bulk it out a bit and get some vegetables in me too.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
