Help Please Cannon Ixus 275 or Cannon Powershot SX610HS

Help please looking to spend £100 on a new camera, would def like a Cannon. Stuck between the Ixus 275 or Powershot SX610HS. I'm no expert but the zoom on the power shot is 18x and the pixels I believe are higher than the Ixus. The Ixus zoom is 12x. That's about the only difference I can see between them other than the Powershot is a heavier and bigger camera.

Have been going round in circles for the last couple of days weighing the pros and cons of which model to go for. Any help would be appreciated

Definitely go and see and hold them both. One will feel just right! (Personally I'm an IXUS fan - small and smooth and lovely to hold.) I don't think that a few pixels will make much difference to photo quality...

Yes don't get hung up on pixels. The lens is more important

Thank you both for your replies. I must admit I have always been an Ixus fan having owned one for 9 years. Unfortunately there just doesn't seem to be the shops to go and actually see the cameras these days (certainly not the two I want) I guess I am more concerned about the zoom difference not sure how much difference it would make between a 12x zoom and an 18x zoom. The focal length on the ixus is 25mm to 300mm and the focal length on the Powershot is 25mm to 400mm. They are both the same price and obviously want to get the most for my money. I am still swayed by the Ixus having had one for so long but if the Powershot offers better performance for the same money I do wonder if I should go for that?

A £100 camera will have cost a few pounds to manufacture.

The lower quality sensor and lens means definition is soon lost after 3-4 x zoom so don't get hung up on it.
  • Those cameras look nearly identical, spec wise, appart from their lens range.

If you ever want to do a macro (close up) shot (i.e. 1 cm away) then get the ixus. If you want to do big zoom, then get the powershot. That's near enough the main difference.

The Ixus will be marginally better in low light (lowest f number is f 3.6) but honestly, it won't be amazing..

Digital Depot in Stevenage are very helpful and seem to have both in stock. I don't know if you are near Stevenage?
