I ordered a mixture too, also had the same problem that they weren't labelled. I could make an educated guess with some of them (the burgundy ones are the red sprouts, the red tinged the january king cabbage etc). Makes it all the more exciting though!

Am I too late in ordering these now for the discount?

Also, which varieties would be ok to go in the ground now? I'd really like to get some purple sprouting broccoli and green romanesco going if possible ;)

You can still order I'm sure, just ask the seller a question on ebay. He's very helpful and I'm sure he won't turn away business!

Yes, he's still doing the discount but he thinks it's now too late in the year to plant most of the brassicas. He said spring cabbage would be about the only one I might get away with, but I don't like spring cabbage enough to buy 20 of them :(

Would someone mind taking a picture of their brassicas for me and posting it on here? (sounds quite rude doesn't it? :p ). Its just that mine are small and can't see any time in future when they'll be ready for harvest. Maybe I'm being paranoid here. Dunno.

When I got them originally weeks ago as most of you did I had to put them in container pots until I sorted out a square foot raised bed garden (I have a bad back).

They're all in there and look happy, no insect problems nothing. Just small.

If you want to look at mine, please click on my blog (see link in my signature) and look at the slideshow and tell me what you think. I got a mixed bag of broccoli, sprouts, califlower and cabbage.

Any ideas / comments on the brassicas is most appreciated!!!!

  • You might just find that it's the time of year and they shoot up in the spring. Mine did really well to begin with but seem to have slowed down now the weather is colder

Sorry folks, blog link got taken off my signature, wasn't supposed to put a personal link in it and I didn't realise!

The brassicas are about 6 inches tall now. that's about it really, still quite green but only 1 has a little itty bitty bit of a broccoli bit showing at this point and I'm not sure why I had this thought, but I thought they were supposed to be ready for Christmas time, not the Spring?

I can also tell you at the rate the brussel sprouts are going it could be Christmas next year......is that right too?

I'm new to vegetable growing, please bear with me.....
