Tesco Wine Festival - up top 50% off!

Tesco are holding another of their regualr wine "festiavls" - basically a chance for them to flog off their stocks cheap.

Lots is 30% off but I always wait until now and stock up on whatever's reduced most, eg Colloway Crossing Cabernet Shiraz (red) or Chardonnay half price to £3.325 a bottle.

There are usually some codes kicking about somewhere for extra money off or free Tesco points which make this offer even more attractive.

  • Love the double typo on "festival" :-)

    No offence!:p
  • There's a £10 off code (min 12 bottles) floating around as well...

  • What's interesting from my point of view is how many of the lines on promo are part of the much-vaunted NEW range Tesco has launched - counting on the website its about a third. These were supposed to be the new premium offering but they've slipped in a few half-pricers as well. Gallo Five Oaks is repackaged Gallo Sycamore Canyon, Kumala Eternal is repackaged Kumala Zenith (Asda doesn't play the same half-price game as the others, and its easier for the supplier/retailer to repackage the lines or use different grape varieties to avoid customer comparisons). Legally if 120 wines are in a "Save up to 50%" then only 10% of the offers have to be saving 50% to make the claim; for Tesco that's easy - they have more than that at half price on any typical month all year. What they do better than the rest is the instore theatre to make it appear such a great deal. Another question I would have is whether some of the new lines have been in long enough to make a claim against. Legally they need to have been at the higher price for 28 days prior to a promotion and some of these will have been VERY tight. Its very hard to get the evidence though.

Thanks .... 12 bottles for under £2.80 a bottle (after Quidco)!! I'd just like to mention that when you use the code, it comes up with an error message at the top saying that I didn't qualify for free delivery as I hadn't spent £99. It still gives the £10 off, so I don't know if you could get free delivery as well if you wanted to spend more ...?

  • I would like to take advantage and order some wine but not very knowledgeable about what is good value for money as I don't usually buy from Tesco.
Would love some suggestions for reds, any country. Also any comments of the value of any of the mixed cases
    Many thanks
  • I've found when buying wine that you tend to get what you pay for and when wine is reduced in the supermarket there's invariably a reason.
    The reason is spoilage.
Supermarkets know when a wine is past it's best or spoilt and reduce the price accordingly. The more spoilt the wine, the greater the reduction.
I tend to avoid like the plague any wine with any money off as I know it's not going to be in perfect condition.
I'd rather buy a cheaper wine in good condition than get a bargain reduced wine which is (usually) spoilt and tastes bad.
I'm a happy money saver but wine is one thing I won't buy at a discount price.
I don't think supermarkets are being benevolent with their reductions, more like savvy in getting stock off their hands that's just going to deteriorate further.
Correct me if I'm wrong though!

thanks webuserisme - have found another code for £15 off if you spend £50, which isn't difficult if you like the slightly pricier wines in the special offer (and you have to buy 12 bottles to qualify) - code is XX-EO4E - you still have to pay the £5 delivery charge. I used a £5 clubcard points voucher and got 6 bottles of Kendermans Pinot Grigio and 6 of Hardys shiraz for £36.18 - just over £3 a bottle - bargain!!
  • I've always found Chilean wines to be great value at Tesco. Depends on the occasion/intent, but they're full of flavour [and alcohol!] and come in from about £2.80 upwards! Very underrated by those who choose to spend lots of money....
:spam: ..........go on, you know you fancy some!
