UK national - stranded - need new UK account

Thanks in advance, anyone who can advise. I'm probably succumbing to fearmongering about the Euro here but current developments in the UK leave me reluctant to forgo sterling....
Long story short, I am a UK national who needs a new UK bank account. I have/had one but it's being closed. I'm overseas, outside the EU and have no proof of address in the UK.
I've been banking with a UK Credit Union for over 10 years. But that is closing and the replacement current accounts it is offering are not suitable: in order to set one up I would have to travel 7 thousand miles. The Credit Union are not likely to extend any special circumstances to me as shortly before they closed the account they requested proof of address in the UK that I was unable to provide and we were discussing whether or not they would accept me using as an interim solution my brother's address.
So I need a new UK bank account. I am a UK national (with a NI no, National Health no, "Certificate of Good Behaviour" and 10 year track record banking with and borrowing from the CU) but I am not living in the UK and have no proof of address there.
I'm out of the UK permanently, pretty much. I have a Euro bank account in the country in which I'm currently residing but this does not provide a debit/credit card and yes, it is.....Euros only.
I don't borrow and I'm not a "big spender" or saver, really - just 40 thousand quid or so in and out each year - it's more a matter of financial security post Brexit.
Can anybody help? Thanks if you do have any suggestions.

You won't get a UK bank account without proof of ID and as you don't live in the UK or have any credit history for the past 10 years then you will struggle.
Does your Euro bank have a UK branch? Having 40k a year go in and out of an account that is not registered to your current address either is going to raise money laundering suspicions too.0 -

Why do you need. U.K. account?0 -
If you want a sterling account, does the bank providing your euro account not offer one? If you're outside the EU, I'm assuming this is a foreign currency account itself?
Many banks are now reluctant to give an account to someone who is not UK (or at least EU) resident, so you may really struggle to find what you're looking for.0 -
It's not clear why you would need a UK or GBP account, but there are many 'offshore' accounts available in the Channel Isles or Isle of Man which do not require a UK address. e.g. Santander Jersey or Lloyds International etc. Most require a minimum balance to avoid fees however.Evolution, not revolution0

Thanks everybody for your helpful input.
I guess it is just habit - I am a UK citizen who has had UK banking all my life. But I will look into offshore.
Thanks again!0 -
Don't know if this might help you via Lloyds?
Think it depends on your income or how much you can invest with them.
