Buying ex partner out of home

Hi
My ex partner and I had a home together we split up in 2009. I agreed to buy him out. The value of the house was 90.000 at the time we still owed 70.00 so it was agreed that I give home 10.000. I could only get a loan for 7.500 gave him that so techniques owed him 2.500. I continued to live in the home with our daughter who was 14yrs my ex owed me a lot of child maintenance so he agreed to me not paying him the 2.500. When our daughter reached 18. I decided to sell the property as I wanted to downsize. I sold the house for 81.500. And gave my ex 500 as a good will gestures. He is now saying that I still owe him 2.500. Is there anything I can do to contest this

Have you actually sold the property and completed, or have you only accepted an offer? Is his name still on the deeds or was it removed? Do you have any agreements in writing? If you've actually sold has the solicitor given you the funds or are tgey still with them awaiting distribution, and if you've been given the funds is your ex threatening to sue you? Is your child still in full time education and entitled to child maintenance still, and is your ex paying it?
Advice depends on where you are in the process and therefore how much power your ex has?Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
Property was sold two years ago. For 81.500 I did review funds but it was sold for 8.500 less than valuation when we split. My ex was taken off the deeds when I bought him out in 2010. My daughter was in full time education until the age of 18. Then went on to uni. My ex has never paid any child maintenance sine we split up in 20090

So he has no power to hold up the sale or prevent you getting your money. His only recourse I believe is to sue you. How likely do you think he is to do this, what evidence would he have and what evidence would you have? The fact he allowed his name to be removed at the time would be an indication things were settled then, and he would have anything in writing from you agreeing he was still owed money. So I wouldn't worry.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

Does the child maintenance add up to more than £2500?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I don't actually know. As he has never paid anything since I was awarded payments in 2010. I have moved house so need to contact CSA to find out0

Does the fact that I sold the house for less than the valuation when we completed the transaction0

If he was bought out and removed from the deeds in the past, whatever you did to the property and sold it for after that is nothing to do with him. I'm surprised you gave him any money from the sale when he never paid child maintenance as that money was for your child. If anything that muddies the waters but isn't proof tgat he was owed.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

My point is that he is saying that he is seeking legal advice to get the 2.500 I still owe him from the time I bought him out Even though I have sold the property for less then it was valued at when we completed the transaction.0

Unless he has some signed contract by you regarding this matter, he doesn't have a leg to stand on.
Added to the risk of it potentially backfiring when it comes to owed and current child maintenance, its not a risk I would choose to take in his shoes
Tell him to sue you for it.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
