O/S Daily Thread for Sunday 10th July 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all
Well done JackieO, great news Speky, hugs to Hilstep, waves to LW, Mrs LW another grandchild, how wonderful, welcome back TTCB and Dom, Elona be brave I love my steam cleaner it will be working over time today once the DGC have gone home
Littlest DGD went to bed at 6 last night and slept through until 7 this morning so I'm feeling a bit more human today. They are all up now and they've had breakfast, I've had a cuppa, hubby has phoned a couple of time to say he's having a good time and to give me a list of things to do, i.e. don't forget to buy a lottery ticket, can you get the car washed etc.. My reply to all these is four words, the first one begins with F, the other words being off, I'm busy!
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning folks and thanks for the start off HESTER. Another day of sunshine and showers in store for us. At least it saves watering the plants! The back garden is looking like part of the Amazon rainforest with shrubs, etc going rampant. I must make an effort to cut it back a bit.
Well the steam cleaner finally came out of it's box last night and, guess what, the enclosed instructions were for a different Hoover model!! So it was like doing the Krypton factor trying to assemble it and guessing what all the bits were for! That's what you get for buying a super cheap bargain on line! We have yet to try it out so watch this space!!
Lunch is some double beef rib picked up in Sainsbobs half price ages ago. I decided it's time it saw the light of day. It will go down nicely with creamy mash and an assortment of veg. My last two pieces of bilberry crumble defrosting for dessert. The new bilberry season will be upon us any time so almost time to start picking again!
Have a nice day all if you can and ((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone from not so sunny Orkney.
I've been down for breakfast and now just sorting out my suitcase, putting things in drawers. The group met for the first time at dinner last night and gelled OK. Interestingly I'm the only Scot amongst the group, people have travelled from Reading / Brighton etc, a real mix.
My view is of the harbour and beyond. There's three small ferries for the neighbouring islands part of Orkney and the big one from Aberdeen which goes to Shetland too.
Busy day ahead, itinerary ready and waterproof gear ready.
I hope everyone has a lovely Sunday.0 -
Morning all, it has stopped raining.
Well done to JackieO, great news Speky, hope Hilstep is ok,, love to those who would like it.
I have started the day by dropping my marmitey toast on my pjs, ho hum. I am a bit of a grub, I make pjs do 2 nights, but this was the first night, hooray for washing machines.
TA you can usually find the instructions online, I bought a new vax a couple of tears ago, the instructions were rudimentary and told me to go online for the fuller instructions. Not sure why, it was not exactly a complex machine, I imagine a steam cleaner would be more complicated.
I need to go out later, I forgot to get a card for my step dad's birthday. Plus a few bits. Otherwise, no real plans other than the dreaded ironing.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all
Tried to post twice yesterday but no idea where they went!
Gers that sounds wonderful.
MM your DD May be quite happy on her own.
HH hope today isn't too stressful!
Well done JackieO.
Fantastic news Specky.
The weather's been quite good here, went for a huge bike ride yesterday and eventually got some lunch, the Dutch aren't known for their speedy service. Off to a place called Deventer today and staying overnight.
Have a good Sunday and good luck to Andy Murray. Take care. Xx0 -
Morning :hello:
Oh Speky that's fab news :j
Wish I'd seen her dad all wrapped up to collect that letter :rotfl:
Scampi was evil on his walks yesterday, I had to resort to ducking into alleyways and hiding behind parked cars whenever a stranger appeared. He's a bit grumpy this morning so I'm not going to attempt a walk, instead I'm going hunt around for bits and pieces to try and set up a mini agility course in the garden – should be fun
Someone gave us a couple of squash plants, I don't like squash but mr tru does so he planted them. He picked seven yesterday, I thought they looked a bit weird so I googled images and scrolled til I found a matching photo. Pattypan squash apparantly, I'd never heard of them. I have no idea what to do with them – will be googling recipes later – but for now they look pretty in the kitchen
I was hoping for a peaceful afternoon but master tru is fitting our new doors today so no doubt I'll be the labourer, lol.

Thanks AOD but I tried that. It's a discontinued model and any instructions I find are for newer models. I'll get there! I know what you mean, though, about having to go online for fuller instructions. I got a new camera a couple of years back and that's the same. Consequently, I have never got beyond simply taking photos! All the other wondrous things it does are still a mystery to me sadly! One day!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. Good Morning chums TA I'm a bit like that with my lap-top I am never quite sure all the things it does so I stick to what I know:)
Its a MacAir laptop that I bought last year and I really only use it on holiday or if I take it with me to DDs when I am watching the DGS after school as I can watch catch-up tv if they are on the main house computer doing their homework
I prefer my old clunky desktop which I am on at the moment upstairs in my tiny study. Its so old I am still running Window XP on it via google chromeEven then I only know half of what the buttons are for the top row of buttons row f1 to f12 I have never used
But it suits me for what I want
Well I had a nice early night and a read, so feel a bit brighter this morning so I am just about to make 5 dozen sausage rolls for my eldest DD for the family birthday do this afternoon.
Then I will sit down and write out my menu's for the week and prep all the veg for this week to put in the fridge in cold water for later, and that's about all of my jobs done for today.
Party kicks off mid afternoon so I may just get a 'Nanna' nap tucked in somewhere there
Hope you all have a good day and the sun shines down on you all
Cheers JackieO xxx0 -
Oh that's a shame TA, a nuisance.
JackieO the F5 button is for refresh, I've no idea about the others!I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone,
Late start for me today, we stayed up to watch a film last night and didn't get to bed until after midnight, get me
Not too much planned today, we do need to get out to HB to look for paint and varnish as hopefully DSS's will start some decorating this week. If it's wet they can start on main bathroom, otherwise the swing seat needs rubbing down and re-varnishing. It's a good way of getting all those little jobs done and help the lads to fund University.
Other than that it's nothing more strenuous than listening to the Archers and watching Mr Murray do his thing. Have a chook for roasting and will make a jelly to go with ice-cream.
TRU love the idea of a doggie agility course in the garden, wonder what's put Scampi in a grump?
GERS have a wonderful day
TA my VAX steam mop is still in the box, really must try it out
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0
