Prices are crazy - over £3k for two in Barbados for 2 weeks. Even the sale prices are obscene.

3k for two weeks at a sandals resort is cheap.

Why don't you look at doing an ExEU flight, treat yourselves to UC or CW. Then book a hotel yourselves.

Perhaps give your wants/budget and ideal holiday ideas and someone might be able to help.

I'm really finding that package is a lot cheaper than booking separately - for example a package deal to Mexico is around £1200PP but flights alone are over £500PP, for a decent AI hotel I can't find anything for 2 weeks below £1400.

Where are the places you'd suggest accommodation being cheap?
Any "developing" country, like the ones you mention, will have cheap accomodation, in fact cheap everything. You've been given some examples.

You just need to get past UK agents trying to rip you off that "exotic" = "really expensive". No, "third world" = "cheap" ;). Check the tripadvisor forums for the places you're interested in.

Also you may need to take off the AI blinkers - paying for meals etc separately could be cheaper than AI even if you have them all at the hotel.
I don't want to sound as if I'm turning my nose up but I've been all round Europe and I just prefer the more far flung locations.
If you're just going to be sat around the pool what difference does it make where you are? As long as it's hot?
