Opening a bank account in the UK for the 1st time

Hello everyone
I have a similar situation like Maelwys' "UK Bank Account for Irish Newlywed moving to the UK"
I will be relocating to London from Dublin in a few weeks time and my husband and I could use some help
(FYI, neither of us are Irish so we might cancel our current irish bank accounts after we get our last salaries, etc)
As proof of address, we have a (digital) signed lease and obviously we will apply for the NI number as soon as we arrive
We both use AIB and I have a credit card with them too (that I might cancel later on, not sure)
Most of the info seems to point out to "switching banks" but as a first timer, I don't know where to look
I just need an account where my monthly wages can go into and maybe apply for a credit card later on
Thanks in advance!

Open a sterling current account with AIB and use that until you have lived in London for a year or so?0

The 'basic bank account' post, along with passport, CT bill (which should come very soon after registering) and signed tenancy agreement should be all you need.
Banks are known to upgrade basic accounts once you've been with them for a while to a 'standard' account.💙💛 💔0 -
