in Credit cards
Hi,
Got my new Lloyds Avios card today and I want to maximise the collection of points.
So it is possible to pay bills using the Credit Card. E.g Council tax is £225pm if i paid with the card thats 280 Avios pm (first 6 moths doubled so 560 p/m), and could i do the same for everything that didn't require a DD e.g gas/electric for 5% discount.
Cheers,

Most councils charge additional fee for paying by credit card. Same with water bills but not sure about Gas and electric.0

I pay my council tax with my card for points with no extra charge from my council. Ring the council in your area and check to see if they accept payment by credit cards and if they do make sure they don't add an additional percentage on.
Same goes for my water bill I pay that by credit card for points too. Again check with your local area. Some do and some don't allow credit cards.
My points add up nicely.

Alternatively cashback is available on direct debits in some bank accounts, natwest rewards and Santander 123 Spring to mind.0

Not sure if all household bills could be paid with Amex (my council does accept Credit Cards but no Amex for example), which in turn means you may end up paying with the Madtercard at only 1/4 of the avios earning rate, which makes the cashback available on certain accounts a much better options (I have an RBS Rewards account).0
