:) Wild Thing looks exactly like an MC but is far too small. Her sister, the sadly deceased Queen of Sheba, appeared to be a mongrel-Burmese. They were nursing six kittens between them when we first saw them at the rescue place and not one kitten resembled in the slightest either mama cat.

She looks at her most fetching sitting down; when standing, viewed from the back, she has the most ridiculous fluff pantaloons you ever saw. And sheds like anything. I love the tufty paws, though.;)

She's pretty good at doing cat things like hunting, although definately on the dim side of the cat intelligence scale; definately a blonde IYSWIM. But extremely cute and affectionate.

I've got a cute and fluffy cuddly looking cat that is actually Maggie Thatcher reincarnated. The snooty glare alone could kill mice at 60 paces.

  • What with the move, the build up to it when we ran stocks and equipment down to the bones we felt we needed prepping has been simmering on the back boiler of life for a few months. I think we're sorted enough now to look seriously at what we have and find what we need to get for things to be back to normal state of preparedness. Yesterday we went to Lidl and got 2 x 12 tins of both chopped tomatoes and baked beans, some long grain rice and jars of marmalade too. I culled lots of equipment and extras so that's something else I need to sort out. We had a good delivery of fire wood this morning which is now all put under cover and the new wood stove is being fitted in early November. We've got our allotment and are making inroads into clearing it and planting up some winter broad beans but I feel I've taken my eye off the ball for long enough and need to be back in prepping mode specially the cold weather warnings come to fruition even in a mild way.

Snow forecast up north for the weekend and the farmer on the Scots weather forum says his cows are telling him winters coming! (they wouldn't stay out in the field overnight tonight, they all turned back into the steading) :)

:) I swear cows have more sense than some people, not sure that sheep have a fraction of their good sense.

I'm working on Plot2, the half plot alongside Plot1 which I took on this spring in an advanced state of dereliction. It is Week 32 over there. I have cropped parts of it but it wasn't ideal as it was a mad scramble to clear ground and sow but I did get broad beans, runner beans and I have leeks in there atm.

:j My broad beans on Plot1, sown on 10th Oct after having been soaked for 48 hrs, were up on 22nd. The other half of the patch was sown a day later and haven't broken the surface yet. My intention is to have about three quarters of Plot2 down to spuds in 2019, to give Plot1 a good rest. I am graining as I go, and using Plot2 as the bonfire site as spuds seem to love ash and grow about 20% bigger.

I'm feeling the need to add some more provisions to my stash, can see a liddly trip in the near future. Only having a pushbike means I have to get heavy things like cans a few at a time, but it spreads both the cost and the (infinitely slight) risk of getting a dodgy batch.

Righty-o, must get on with the day, have a good one, lovely peeps. GQ xx

Can you use ash from coal fires as well or does it have to be only wood ash? Anybody know?

:) I think wood ash only, Mar. Something about when you burn wood and plant materials, you get potash, when you burn coal, there are other things in it. Could be useful to keep some handy to spread on snowy paths, tho?

I hesitate to mention that seasonal festivity relating to the birth of a child some years ago, but the Lidl Advent calendars that you can refill & be charmed by year after year are returning. Pre-ordering by internet is on Nov 1 so I have stashed a diary reminder.
I then discover Martin not only has the reminder but it's in the email here but looking as enchanting as ever. I may place Two orders & get one of these which I can then give away as I very rarely drink. (Won't it look somewhat attacked by bibulous mice once you hit the third week?)

I may just go off & find one of these (discounted, naturally) for no other reason than I like them. Or the nativity stable & add figures & animals through the month. I must ask mum what happened to the crib we had, as the whole setting up was fun and being allowed to add an animal was an earned treat. [I can feel my sons looking at me, with expressions verging on carehome! to just dubious!]
