  • Sad to say, our local microbrewery's spent grains go directly to a local farmer, so we won't be profiting from their waste. But at least they're going to good use. And really, we produce plenty of compost, what with the 'lottie, the garden & the chickens, and I can pick up horse manure easily and for free too.

Yes, Datura's poisonous, and also a powerful hallucinogen, so that's coming out as soon as I can get back down there. But that won't be until next week; I had to call an ambulance to OH early this morning as he was doubled up with chest pains and could hardly breathe. After 6 hours in the coronary care unit, they announced he had the heart of a 21 year old, but had also probably trapped a nerve in his spine. By this time I was late to take DS3 & all his kit back to uni, so spent the next four hours sitting in traffic jams... not a brilliant day really, but I'm very glad that OH's ticker has a clean bill of health. Now I'm well behind & all ends up to get ready for a very busy weekend!

  • Hugs, hope all is well now? sleep well, you've earned ti xxx.
  • Ooh thriftwizard - yikes & of course Such Timing, but phew now! Please do get the datura out - it's viciously hallucinogenic-through-to-fatal & while I use nettles etc as strategic landscaping (to deter visitors from stomping their own paths), I prefer to keep the toxic stuff where I can padlock it.

Mildly awed at the Dutch planners but I'll bet the outdoors stores sent the lads off intelligently equipped. Post exercise feedback should inform both planners & military what works & who did the best prices so it may generate useful intel, if they choose to use it!

Suddenly smitten, I checked, and yes, The Tea Stash is of boxes of packets. All up off the floor & in bags that do not declare Tea Here. That latter being two edged - the menfolk moved a ladder rendering stash #1 inaccessible to me other than by drone or something equally desperate.

Now to take car off for repairs or last rites, but still chuckling over the mammaries upwards phrasing.

Oh goodness thriftwizard, what a day! I'm so glad OH is ok, relatively speaking. Has the trapped nerve sorted, or at least eased a bit?

DfV That's Not Good about your tea stash! Is there anything you can do to retrieve it and move it elsewhere?
  • Started stashes #2 &#3. While keeping an eye on the ladder & remembering #1 exists!

Tea. The top essential in my Survive This toolkit. Yes, fire starting tech, a billycan, dry firewood, tarps & dry clothes & boots and all these other good things but tea first.

Must remember to move the key shaped USB stick Onto the keyring! Family photos, family tree, and a gruesome list of suppliers, identities, passwords and so forth all In Case.
Passport number, vehicle recovery & insurance details, outline medical history & ADNR, yes but what frankly fundamental data should go on there?
  • Have you notice how product labels are becoming Americanised?

I bought a set of spanners the other day, and they're labelled as "Wrenches".

Likewise, I saw a rubbish bin labelled as a "Trash Can".

I'm half expecting to see a shop selling Cell Phones.

There will probably be temporary upheaval as things change, but not likely to be any worse, imo, than the disruption caused by weather events like the Beast from the East.
I agree - I think thats the worst it'll be.

Honestly - I know it sounds stupid - but it does...

It's not a Cabinet post meaning it's not someone that actually has any power or real responsibility. It's a junior post that's responsible for collating information from businesses and suppliers about their concerns and feeding the info up the chain - literally, that's the job.

That's why it covers so many areas - if it were a serious job then it would JUST be 'Food Minister' (as it was during the war), not tacked on with animal welfare, forestry and climate change.

It would be like me being called 'Staff Communication and Engagement Manager' because it's my job to empty the suggestions box each week.
That's interesting detail, NewShadow - and it kind of confirms that everything thats being done right now is for show. Which is important from a prepping viewpoint.

Sorry to hear this, thriftwizard! Thats last night now, I hope he's over that pain - even though its caused by a temporary situation, a trapped nerve, that level of pain is still draining to experience.

Personally that's what I'm expecting and trying to prep for. Temporary shortages or hold ups in the shops.

Exactly! Joking aside (just for a moment!) that's the realistic worst case that most of us see.

I have to confess that whenever i first came here, I thought this thread was a bit bonkers - now I think it’s fantastic & sadly possibly necessary!

I’ve started building up a bit of a stockpile of things (mostly food although I stockpiled candles for years ever since I lived in a cold, damp rented flat with cr*ppy heating) for the possibility that food sourcing could be an issue post-Brexit. I don’t fancy being the selfish person who’s suddenly buying 10 loaves of bread in a panic like happens when fuel lorries strike but I’d like to be prepared just in case.

I also have enough tea to last me for the next century lol but that’s quite by accident & me being unable to resist buying it!
