Thank you fuddle and kittie :T

I've had dry eyes for years. I use a gel which used to be prescribed by the GP but I have to buy it now. Interestingly I found it was much cheaper in a local independent pharmacy than in one of the major chains.

fuddle just seen your post above - yes, the house seems airless. OH bought a portable aircon unit, or "air cooler" as it says on the box, but tbh we're a bit underwhelmed - it's really just a more sophisticated version of putting a bowl of iced water in front of the fan. i'm embarrassed to say we've ordered a Dys0n fan from argoose :o

Jumping in on the nasties in dry good thread; I too have had them despite storing in plastic and once they get into the compressed wood of the cupboards they are really difficult to shift (trust me :(), hence I now freeze before storage. Even more so as I currently live in SW France where it's generally warmer for longer than the UK.

I've not found the weevels much of a problem, probably because of the freezing routine but we have a lot of the pantry moths and they can eat into cellophane/plastic packages:eek: So more and more of my dry goods are going into glass jars, and I use the glue traps on the doors of the cupboards that have food.

And that brings me to my next point::D If anyone is holidaying in France, or booze cruising, check out the local big supermarkets. Le Parfait jars are much cheaper here than in the UK as are the replacement seals should you need them.

Thank you Kittie and Fuddle.:) My eyes are really dry and itchy today so I'm going to follow the advice straight away.

Fuddle the dry, dusty air is certainly affecting MrC's asthma. We replaced our carpet in the living room though this year, with vinyl flooring that looks like wood ( can't remember what it's called) it was very expensive but it's really helped his breathing. We plan to have it all through the house downstairs ASAP. Upstairs we have laminate floors and I'm stunned by how dusty they're getting every day as the dry weather continues. I can't help wondering just how much dirt and dust is harboured in even the cleanest carpets though.
I see saving for good quality flooring as prepping. If it improves his health it will be well worth it.

Yeah, I'm finding it a bit hard to breath today. I think maybe because there was so little wind to cool my house overnight. I had the fan blowing on me all night.

Morning walk nearly killed me at 9am though. I dread to think what it will be like later.

Fuddle did you manage to email the team about Kittie? I tried to but it wouldn't let me unless I'd done something else first and had a reference number and I couldn't see how you got to that stage
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

I'm laughing at all the "experts" currently coming out of the woodwork to proclaim that x amount of thousands will die from heatwaves from now on.. You watch - we'll have another 30 years of rotten summers now. Our last good one here was 1985! lol

    1) Our first change to the new house when we finally get moved will be to install a multi fuel stove, a good one that does a double burn and one that releases as little by way of emissions into the environment as it's possible to get. I want one that has either an oven over the firebox or a cooking plate on the top that will let me cook on it and boil kettles while it keeps us warm.
Mrs L I find there is nothing quite like the heat given off by one of these stoves. Even if it goes out overnight there is usually a residual heat in the morning.
I have a Little Wenlock - which is very little! However the flue pipe exits from the rear rather than the top which leaves more space for kettles etc. You don't need a cooking plate on top imo, I just put pans directly on the stove.

Actually looking at the global weather map, I'm a bit concerned - for the longer term - as it's not just us. Already they are predicting mass migration due to changing weather patterns and crops failing etc.

I escalated to the forum administrator. The page allowed my message to send without a ticket number but whether it will be read is another matter. She'll be allowed to post again 7th August and is ok though.

She said that when it's close and thundering, nitrogen in the atmosphere uses oxygen which is why those of us with respiratory issues struggle a bit. I hope I've shared that correctly. I'm not at all scientific
