THE Prepping thread - a new beginning :)

I think this (rather long) video makes clear who is really in charge.

I've prepped for this 'visit' - I've a thick blanket over a table, the TV & radio are off & I'm in my fort, in denial.
Mind you, there's something astoundingly insulating about teaching - you really do not have a spare minute to wonder about Out There, you are too busy trying to sense what's going on between the ears. (I don't think I want to teach non-technical stuff. I'm rock solid confident on software, hardware & how to use various tools - but trying to sense and defuse anxiety? I leave to the hindbrain a lot & that's not good when you're supposed to be teaching. Thank heaven the class knew each other, & could [& did!] joke around with each other a bit, as some of their stunts nearly gave me a heart attack....0 -
Well goodness me I'm seeing so much angst in various threads! I don't know if it has a single cause or if it's just conglomerate unease about the Trump visit and his unsettling style of words, whether it's the prospect of Brexit or not and how that will be, it might be the heat but there are some vastly unhappy posters out there at the moment. There is a question on the validity of discussing things like blackberry tea in 2018 on the Prepping for Brexit thread and is it appropriate in 2018? I guess IF you're of a mind to be a prepper it is but someone 'normal' (I don't mean we're not) it might come across as eccentric to put it at it's mildest, but I can't see any harmful reason why it shouldn't be part of a discussion about a possible future can you? I know the world considers preppers in general as panicking misfits who are on some alternative plain of existence to the 'real world' but is there any good reason why knowledge of a practical kind shouldn't be kept alive and discussed in the 21st century?0

I think people always think it's funny to put down preppers. Mainly because they suddenly realise that they themselves have no preps and wil be caught out.0

The put downs don't actually bother me MAR I've the courage of my own convictions when it comes to prepping for anything. What does bother me is that because life is comfortable and we have the support of the NHS, police force, armed forces, councils to take our rubbish and keep our roads in good order, run street lighting, etc. and most of us if not rich are able to manage and live a good life with enough food to eat, money enough to meet our needs and keep us clothed many people cannot envisage a change in that life happening, complacency is endemic, it could never happen in this day and age is a running theme and that really scares me not for us because I know we'd have a chance to weather the transition to a less certain and comfortable life not just because I've made preps but because of our mindset and our skills. I fear for those who won't think the unthinkable thought that things might change, it will be a very rude awakening when it does for some.0

I agree Lyn, and I would have thought blackberry tea was quite a sensible thing to want to know how to make
(Says she with a rapidly-ripening crop in the garden. I'm the only one among my family and friends who likes blackberries.)
DigForVictory I'm not sure I understood your post correctly. Are you hiding under the table which has the thick blanket over it? (Actually that brings back rather happy memories of playing "houses" under a grey Army blanket draped over the clothes horse)

Just bought a new LED lantern.
Will test it out tonight, when it gets dark.
With such a high light output, I'm not expecting the batteries to last a long time, but we'll see.0 -
