I've just seen something on FB saying there was a 3.2 earthquake in the north west this morning. My FB friend thought it was snow falling off the roof.Spend less now, work less later.0

Very cold here this morning -6 outside but now bright sun and blue sky, not a breath of wind either and still no snow, I think we're very lucky!0

Its very windy here, -1 and lower pressure than yesterday. I see that part of scotland has a red warning. Ds is on the very edge of that, cycled to work on his very rugged big-wheeled bike, said was enjoyable but was like cycling through sand. I just e mailed, he needs to leave work promptly, no doubt will skip lunch and leave early afternoon
Beautiful and sunny but so deceptive, feels very uplifting and cosy inside and I have been reading in a sunny spot by the window
Two big flasks and small thermos mugs filled, glad I bought another big flask. Oven on for cooking when I can, to boost internal warmth. Clouds are racing in now
ah sensible company. They have all just been told to go home. Parts of scotland are closing down0 -
Smack in the middle of the central belt of Scotland here. Our office is all working from home today and tomorrow. I really hope the electricity stays on. Second blizzard on just now. I hope everyone stays safe.0

minus 6 this morning about 2 inches of snow overnight and picturebook pretty in bright sunshine - we have a church just over the road and lots of trees along the road.
Would have been very happy just to hunker down but had a hospital appt for DH. I took a walking pole with me for crossing the carpark. Nobody mocked - I think I'm that age where they assume it's normal. But with osteoporosis I did not want to take any chances
By the time we got out all the roads and most of the pavements that were in the sun were completely clear of snow even though the temperature was still -1.
No more snow forecast today either by the Beeb or the Met office (given that the Beeb takes its forecasts from the Met Office why are they always so very different?) I want to go to Lunnon tomorrow to the Knitting and Stitching Show and if DH gives me a lift right to the station door I think I'll be fine. Poor stallholders if it really affects attendanceIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Something to toss into the great prepping boiling pot, we've got it relatively easy down here and it's just bitterly cold at the moment BUT I've just walked the dog and when walking into the wind it's extremely painful and my eyes just ran and ran. If I was having to evacuate I'd be in all sorts of problems so I think at the very least sunglasses to shield, even swimming goggles to keep the wind off as my eyes are so sore now and I just couldn't see where I was going. When the wind was on my back it was fine, but walking into it was horrid!0

Yes, very good point Mrs L. I used to wear glasses till I had my cataracts done and I never realised till then how much protection glasses give your eyesIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

May I suggest these Ray-Bans Lynn?

They keep your eyes very well protected, but sadly are no longer available in prescription lenses.0 -
Still bright & sunny here, even reasonable warm if you can find shelter from the bitter wind. We've had the odd little dusting, which has promptly melted. The DDs are beginning to think we aren't actually going to see any snow at all; apparently that's what everyone's saying up town, and OH has just come in & said that the warnings have been downgraded? Not according to my computer...Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Phew back indoors, avec walking poles (and no one taking the michael). We had 5 inches of snow by 08.30 am and more since, 90% of the city is Closed for Business and the roads are impassible. No buses, too treacherous to cycle (I've seen a few go over today) and hardly anybody walking about.
I resupplied at a Mr T before heading back home, having rung SG to check if she needed anything, she was OK.
People have been ski-ing, sledging and snowboarding on some of our streets. Well, they ain't fit for driving on atm!:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
