This might make you guys chuckle:
You may remember some months ago, I mentioned that both my & my mother's doorbell were ringing early in the morning. Whoever was doing that seems to have given up due to my entreaties.
However, this week I have been even more scared by a weird flash on my landing when I go out to use the WC at night. I just worked out the cause this morning: My new smoke alarm has a small red LED that flashes about every 10 seconds.
When it's pitch black, and I am half asleep, that little LED seems ever so bright.I've been woken a few times by a flashing light which has turned out to be my electric toothbrush flashing to let me know it hasn't finished charging yet! I now charge it only in the daytime.
ETA Oh mar, that's brilliant! Well done GrannyPoor old RV though, what a shock!

Lol at the cooker hood, Mardatha.
jk0, I have one of those wired in smoke detectors and it has a wee green light which flashes intermittantly and there's a sort of radio controlled switch on the wall a few feet away from it which flashes a red light intermittantly, too.
Tell ya, my hall is almost ready to boogie.......... either that, or I need to add an amber light and have my very own traffic lights.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I’d got used to the various detectors in my mother’s flat flashing gently through the night. So it took me some time to realise that the light flashing gently through the night in my room in Mallorca was actually just an ordinary wall-light which was firmly turned off... the first of many concerns, sadly!Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Dehydrated apple rings into grolsh-type lid kilner jars. Wired shut to delay impulse snacking...
Mango pieces into little ziplock bags so I can't eat the lot at once.
I will sometimes vacuum seal them in pretty (but expensive) plastic seal bags for Christmas stocking gifts.
[Me, impulse control issues?! Er, yep.]
Herbs into sealed glass jars.
Jerky - er, still trying to figure how to store it as menfolk settle around the device & nibble as it's done... Something including a satchel charge indicated, or vegetarian with a shotgun, I think. Suggestions welcome!0 -
There's one little problem with Kilner jars - they're addictive! I was so taken with the little 70ml ones I had to buy a whole box of them, to fill with crab apple jelly or similar for Christmas prezzies, though a couple have made their way into my van to keep the tea & coffee fresh. Normally I'll only pick them up at car boot sales, but I don't think they've been doing the little ones for very long and they are very cute...Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Well, they do keep things, For Ages, so it's mostly justifiable prepping. Me, I hunt the reduced range tags at sainsburys & buy only when I've vouchers or they're cheap...
<twitch>
Godfather's mother was a bit startled to see me calmly unload four sacks of sugar & two banana boxes of (apparently) brand new kilners for the jam masterclass. (She covets the jar tongs & the nonstick jam funnel though!) What me? Just a tad over-equipped for a raw amateur? Yes, but I watched my mother & grandmothers & heard the hiss of a wet teatowel etc And Remembered!
ETA Clas Ohlson also do little jars & they're usually as cute & cheaper?0 -
mrsLW how are you getting on with house hunting? Me, well its pretty gloomy, I have done all the legwork around areas and many with bigger gardens are money pits with very low epc. I came back yesterday determined to sit on my hands and wait for anything in area plan A. Some are asking hugely silly money, then you go past and turn around because they are so run down and shabby or the area is bad. I haven`t viewed the interior of any yet0

kittie Would staying where you are instead be a possiblilty, or would it become unsuitable as you got older?0

, and saw the sprouting jars. They *look* great, but the reviews are uniformly terrible abou the lids, but the really great thing is that there are pictures of the rack that they're kept on, where you can see that they're tilted downwards slightly. Very easy to do that myself, without spending out on special jars.
When my building works are finished, that'll be another little nutrition project, along with kefir.2023: the year I get to buy a car0
