In that case I would expect it to have printing/photographs showing exactly what it contained. I bought a small carpet shampooer/spot treater recently. The colourful manufacturer's packaging was visible through a plastic bag. And thinking more I've had stuff delivered just in the original manufacturer's packaging with an address label stuck on.You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0

The thing is, about a water filter, you need to have some water to filter. I'm not knocking it, indeed I have the same one, bought a couple of years ago, in my emergency bag. (Calling it a BOB would be excessive, I couldn't live off the contents, it's just intended to be a helping hand in a variety of crises). The world seems a more unsettled place. Adaptability is the key. If water was short, I wouldn't worry about water to wash in, being smelly would be the least of our problems0

Exactly.
Everyone would be smelly, so we'd soon get used to it.0 -

I know it's best to keep one's preps - subtle - but I'm not sure why it being delivered in visible packaging would be a problem? Mind you, I don't live in a block of flats with nosy neighbours. But if I did feel I had to justify my purchase, I'd just say that it was for my holiday canoeing down the Yukon, or rowing round Norfolk, or some equally salty or soggy pursuit where you very obviously couldn't take gallons of water with you.
I suppose that does run the risk of actually having to go & do it, so you can talk about it afterwards. But as far as I remember, a number of members here have done equally adventurous things and loved doing them. My own uncle was still haring off every summer to canoe down Canada's more remote rivers in his mid-80s.
Anyway, thanks for the link, Bob; I might well invest in one of those.Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -

Even desalinated water tastes disgusting .In Malta there is very little fresh water and most is desalinated I used to drink bottled stuff when I was there. A lot of the water in Maldon in Essex is desalinated and tastes revolting as well0
