    BTW, odd dream last night:

I found myself back at school learning to type. (Never did get any typing lessons. I bought a gadget to teach me.) I found it very hard though, as although I knew the key layout, we were on mechanical typewriters.

I wonder if I ever will have to learn to use one of those? :)

You'll get strong fingers if you do!

I did typing at evening classes (a neighbour's front room with desks and big upright typewriters) - we had to type in time to music which got faster as we all improved our speed. :)
  • I have finished today`s stage and the top garage shelves are emptied, all sorts up there but now tipped. Wrt moving in stages, yes it is much easier. If my new place needs anything adding wrt outside storage then our local very trustworthy handyman will do it, another great benefit of not moving too far. I can even easily dismantle the chrome shelving as they are on legs that just join together. That would be best ie take them as they are light enough and re-assemble before garage and workshop goods are moved. Tomorrow will be another stage but I am making sure to be cool and calm in between, so am being steady and not at it hammer and tongs

I just sorted my money too as almost all the sipp money is in stocks and shares, working hard for me. I have liquidated some completely and halved holdings in others. What this does for me, is it protects my house purchase in case of a stockmarket fall. I can always re-invest whatetever is left in cash afterwards as long as I don`t take it out. Belt and braces approach and no sleepless nights

jko, that made me smile, about the garage clearing, oh so true

been refferred to occupational health next monday.....for my knee only had a week off with it.....been ok since.... i see it as a free consultation....although work would use it for their nefarious purposes were it to be serious....which i dont think there is anything structurally wrong with it.......in an effort to ease pressure on knee ...im doing more online grocery shopping which is a preppers dream ....im especially slowly filling up my veg tinned cupboard....hope your all doing fine .. take care
  • heck Daz, you have to be so careful about what you say to these people, in case they use it against you, although it is supposed to be confidential

Lunch eaten and I am still feeling happy and energetic, so am going back into the garage, putting the radio on and will start to sort individual boxes, like sanding and sharpening etc. All labelled but I am sure I can combine and will start sorting wood offcuts, bearing in mind to keep stuff that will make nice things later in life, like scroll saw stuff and pyrography and for christmas ornaments. Prepping for future hobby workings and mindful of not throwing the baby out with the bathwater
  • Ooh Daz - feeling wary on your behalf there about your "free consultation".

These occupational health people write out a report for your employer afterwards. In my experience - when I've been sent to them in latter years it was down to the employer hoping they would write a report that would give the employer the excuse they wanted to get rid of me.

It didn't work in the event:rotfl::rotfl:- as I explained to the OH people what my employer was up to and I was perfectly fit enough to do my job. I was fortunate that the OH people concerned were reasonable people and trying to do their job fairly - but if they hadnt been:eek:

The focus of the media fascinates me. A good chunk of the Western US and Canada has been burning because of dry conditions and the jet stream is carrying particles across the whole of the US. But only the floods make the news... Go figure.

Do you have a link for us, shortbird? That would be great.

  • We're looking for a 'house' as we're both OK with stairs at the moment but more than that we're looking for a house with a big enough garden to manage as we age, not a tiny garden but not enormous either, big enough for some veg and greenhouse but small enough for 'one' to manage should there ever be only one. We're also looking for a downstairs cloakroom and enough rooms at ground level that one could be used as a bedroom if we get to the point of NOT being able to do stairs. I want a wood stove or an open fireplace that could take one and I'd like to be above any possible flood danger but not up a steep hill. The rest is for us to make as we want it. Estate agents seldom paint a true picture and their pictures are very much NOT the true picture with the fish eye lenses etc. that make things seem bigger than they are and their very carefully chosen words to enhance and make the property sound attractive and non disclosure of anything adverse like the property being next door to a pub or on a busy A road. Thank heavens for the map service that google provides, the 'satellite' pictures that you 'zoom in' on to see the quarry/factory complex/smelly farmyard and slurry pit that backs on to the property and also those rare little gems that come with a hoarder next door and a thriving population of long tailed rodents! We'll find it, eventually, and move and make a new life closer to the girls but I'm waiting until I'm sure it's the 'right' place for us, not hurrying or panicking that it will never happen. Patience and dogged tenacity.....and also a sense of humour is what you need when you're looking for a new house!

Funnily enough I'm on a busy road, and across from a pub. Neither are a problem for me. However, I think I got this house for a bargain price in view of them. Worth considering perhaps? :)
