Hiya HoneyBee83, welcome to the madhouse! Pass a tinfoil hat, someone...
Totally knackered here after mucking out chickens, bantams & cockatiels, running up to town for a handful of last-minute supplies like jelly - very important, that Festive Jelly; even my reverend brothers would rather have jelly than Christmas Pud - running down to my mother's as she's under the weather again & needed some supplies, picking up some stuff for the Tip from DS2's en route back, cooking tea, and building the bed that DS1 will be sleeping in over Christmas. Never mind prepping for major disasters, I'm not too sure I'm going to get through the next few days in one piece! However, I may not need to buy any food again until the end of January...Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Did I hear right, on BBC news something about Trump going to upgrade America's nuclear weapons, and that Putin had said the same thing about Russia?0

Unsure what Vlads response was, but yes Trump did.. because having more nuclear weapons is the way for the world to have less

I had a shock this evening...
GF suggested I put the fan heater on in the bedroom before we went up. On our way upstairs later I could smell something odd. The thing was on fire! I unplugged it but still the fire continued. I found a cool leg and used that to carry it downstairs and out of the front door. It remained burning out on the drive, so I doused it with two jugs of water. It didn't half hiss!
I think I'll be installing a smoke alarm on the landing tomorrow. The one in the hall never registered, as of course all the smoke went up. The place still pongs of smoke, several hours later.0 -
Goodness, jk0, you had a lucky escape there. Good job you were alert! We have a couple of those little beasties in case of boiler troubles, and they have a habit of collecting dust inside, which overheats when the heater's in use - maybe that's what caught fire inside yours?
Another day of running to keep up with my "to-do" list coming up, and needless to say I've caught DD2's horrible, painful cough. Could have done without that! But won't have time to notice it, mostly. Off to market to pick up the festive Bird in a mo...Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Festive greetings to all - sorry for being a stranger but we aren't half living in interesting times at the moment and it's been a bit manic.
Quick question/straw poll: how do people feel about metal canisters to keep tea/coffee/sugar in?
I managed to smash my tea container (thankfully I use bags and so none of the tea was actually lost!).
I've picked up a set from argos - tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits and bread bin - which looks quite smart and was on sale, and now I'm second-guessing...
I just have vague memories of coffee getting damp and the bottom of one rusting while I was at uni - but that could have been a flatmate washing and not drying it, or it could have been they weren't designed to be used for that - not sure if that's a fair experience to tar all future sets.
Wondering if I should return these and keep my eyes open for a different set - they're nice, and I like them, and there isn't anything in particular I'd like to replace them with, I'm just concerned about the quality/longevity of the metal.
I think I'm going a little mad thinking about this too much - it's been so hectic this past couple of weeks that I think I'm having trouble with the concept of not having a fire to fight :rotfl:
Hopefully having no problems will be the worst of my (and all of our) problems this festive season and that everyone is somewhere safe, warm and happy
Oh... and JK0 - if you want a fire... tis the season and you are allowed, but there are safer ways. Outside ways :cool:That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

I keep tea sugar and coffee in metal square canisters and has always been fine.0

:hello:Hello stranger
The metal canisters I use are fine inside but they do get rusty on the bottom because there's usually a splash of water on the worktop so they get damp underneath from time to time. Doesn't affect the inside but it leaves rust marks on a pale surface which can be hard to get offIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
This is a sneaky development:
I very nearly fell for this yesterday, as I was expecting a DPD delivery:On the morning 22th of December you'll receive a window and you'll have the possibility to track your request on its way to your address.
Please ensure that someone is available to sign for your delivery.
Pack delivery info and your contact data is in the file attached to this letter.
If you will be out, it's not a problem: you have a range of 'in-flight' options such as changing your delivery time
collecting from your nearest DPD Pickup Shop, asking our team to deliver to your preferred frients or arranging to have your item delivered to a safe place at your work address.
Be careful guys.0 -
jko - I'm wondering how one would tell if that wasn't DPD that sent that email???
I think most of us will have had deliveries from that firm. I am rather losing track of just how many firms I have had to get deliveries from since moving here....There's been DPD and FedEx and Yodel I know...
Glad I don't have online banking - or even telephone banking.0
