I was joking GQ, honest!
It has been a holding operation on the allotment this year because of my back so any crop at all is a bonus. We probably won't overwinter anything other than the fruit and the rhubarb - I did transplant some leek plants but all the gardening books say to do that when they reach the thickness of a pencil and mine never get any thicker than a knitting needle! So if anything comes of them I will be frankly astonishedIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
MITSTM - thanks for the info. A bit too back of beyond but the Tipi people seemed lovely. I don't have health problems as such, more mechanical failures
And asthma, but that is well controlled.
Has anyone read the news item about the policeman calling the W.I an organised crime gang (tongue in cheek)as, apparently, it is illegal to forage for wild food then sell it on for profit. As in blackberry jam at the village fete. Personal use is fine :rotfl:
I get quite cross about the allotments near us, most look fab but there are still quite a few which are overgrown. I'm surprised allotment societies don't have a rule, two years mess then out you go; that would allow for any personal troubles or illness.
Cheel- hope the bunny is settling in.
Tomorrows bit of prepping is a new bedroom window. We had hoped to get away with replacing a couple of units but the man we usually have said the lot needed replacing. We trust him so have gone ahead. Should make the bedroom warmer this winter.
Saying that we usually keep one opening on the night catch for fresh air unless it's really bad.
Coffee is calling
Pineapple - couldn't agree more about location! Your cottage sounds lovely. Not dim.....just living in soft focus

Must tear myself away as we are off to France today and lots to do. NOT going by tunnel this time, ferry from Portsmouth overnight. We did actually get a refund on our Tunnel crossing that was delayed by six hours but Eurotunnel don't advertise it and don't make it that easy
Speaking of travel woes, lovely comment in the Times today about all the shenanigans on Southern - apparently commuters are so furious they are actually talking to each other:rotfl:
Looking forward to this - although DH has been retired three years now and me even longer there has always been something to stop us getting away for a good long break in the summer. DD 1 and 2 are coming out to join us for a week in the middle and the forecast for next week is looking good - though I'll believe it when I see it, French weather forecasts are usually jam tomorrow
I'll read along when I can though not sure whether we'll have good wifi access so will probably have loads to catch up on when we get back

And I'm just checking in before heading off to set up my stall at "our" music festival; we have a week of hard work, little sleep & lots of fun ahead! And a blessed complete break from politics, news and family squabbles; some of my cousins are horrified to find that their father/grandfather voted Leave and applied for an Irish passport to keep his EU citizenship! Which admittedly seems a bit - well, hypocritical - to say the least.
And as usual, it co-incides with the soft fruit producing like mad... luckily there'll be enough family members left here to pick & eat it, if nothing else. Hopefully I'll come back with less stuff to clutter the place up...Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
LOVELING - That policeman is correct. Its the Theft Act 1968:
"A person who picks mushrooms growing wild on any land or who picks flowers, fruit or foliage from a plant growing wild does not (although not in possession of the land) steal what he picks, unless he does it for reward or sale or any other commercial purpose".
So - yep....he has that W.I. bang to rights basically and they could be prosecuted.
I think some allotment societies do have a "Neglect for so long and you're out" rule. I've read of various ones enforcing that and I guess it boils down to how available (or otherwise) allotments are wherever one happens to be in the country. I know that in my last area one couldnt get an allotment "for love nor money" basically and, when I asked to get on the list for the ones nearest to me, the response was "The waiting list got so long that I've closed it. But I can maybe let you have one the other side of the city in about 6 months time". In present location, on the other hand, there are spare allotments and I could just ask and walk straight into having one (guess part of the difference is that a noticeable number of people round here have proper gardens - and grow a bit of stuff themselves). Other difference is I suspect the average health level is worse here (higher average age?) - and some don't do their own gardens and have just concreted them over basically:( (so wouldnt want allotments anyway). Some others do seem to do a lot of extra work on top of a full-time job - so they wouldnt have time to do so.0 -
Have a lovely time maryb, and I hope the weather will be kind
We haven't been to France for a few years and I'm just starting to miss it! Mind you, our favourite campsite is in Normandy so the weather's no better than here.
