Less that 25 minutes to go, and we have a, mostly clear sky.
Things are looking good, for this evening's ISS pass. :cool:0 -
Just for info Katla is back down to green on the warning system as the quakes had lessened, although due to stormy weather some smaller quakes will have been missed in the last few days.
BUT having just checked the various websites Katla has had a bigger quake and a few swarms of smaller quakes as well as some quakes at depth today. Overall suggests magma movement, but nothing immediate as yet. Currently the katla webcam looks like a rainy dull evening in the highlands of Scotland

My cousin posted a picture from her grocery store in Florida. Her caption read, Only in Florida is the wine aisle as empty as the water aisle before a hurricane.Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Huge thanks to Bob, the trees interfered with sighting Not Clouds! Better, several parents caught the infection of excitement off the Scouts & had me email them your info, trying either for a second pass that night (when all darker & from homes higher) or tonight (with extra Cubs...)
So I may startle traffic by lurking on the hard shoulder (with my compass at the ready) as we go across to godfather tonight.
Many thanks for all the details as they helped focus 20 enquiring minds all in the same direction! We then went on to (that surely prepping staple?), care & usage of a Tilley lamp. Ah, meths, paraffin, matches & scouts - what could possibly go wrong?
Happily, the demonstration whoomph of a trangia going AWOL focused young minds a charm, and they all learned to love the glow & purr of a cooperative Tilley...
That Lehman's link is prepper p0rn. Says she, averting a thoroughly improper gaze from some of the canning gear. St Martin, remind me of your mantras?!0 -

You will be better off with tonight's first pass, as it's a 2.6 Mag, whereas last night's second pass was only 0.4 Mag.
Similarly, tonight's first pass, at 2.2 Mag, is the one to go for, rather than tonight's second pass, at a measly 0.7 Mag.
ETA: You don't really need to be away from homes.
A 2+ Mag pass is easily visible, even with street lights nearby.0 -
It wasn't the street lights that did for us, it was the trees/hills. Victims of geography - I think the Cubs will be hiked up onto the rec to get an extra few degrees leeway.
Meanwhile I plan to try again from the highest point on the UK motorway network, Saddleworth Moor.0 -
Tonight's pass maxes out at a whopping 56 degrees of elevation, which will take it above all but the tallest buildings.0

This made me think - while we like to do for ourselves, we aren't professionals - complacency can be a killer. The plight of a four-year-old boy who nearly died after his parents gave him 12 alternative medicines has prompted doctors to warn against the treatments.
Doctors at Newham Hospital in east London said the parents were "devastated" that their good intentions had made him so unwell.
The boy took a dozen supplements supposedly to help treat his autism.
The boy developed a potentially fatal condition after taking supplements from a naturopath (natural health practitioner) for a number of months, which included vitamin D, camel's milk, silver and Epsom bath salts.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0
