how do i drag Photos i have taken into a different order on windows 7, at the moment i try to drag but they stay in the same postilion, which setting do i need to change

Rename them with a number at the start, in the order you want them.
That is exactly what I would do.
I set up different folders - family, holidays etc, in date order, then rename the photos, usually by right clicking on the image, then select rename.
If you do use numbers, then I find it best to do this, 0001, 0002,0003 etc, because if you simply go 1, 2, 3 then when you get to 11, it will slot in next to 1.0
