Santander 123 credit card account fee

Hello,
I've got a Santander 123 credit card and my 12 month anniversary is due soon, so I'll start getting hit with the £3 monthly fee for using the card.
I'm going to cancel the card before this happens, but I'd like to know if its doable to cancel the card then apply again to use it again for another what's now 6 months for free.
I've seen people who have posted doing this on the internet before, but I only read the title and didn't give the post a good read over. I tried looking for the post a little while ago, but couldn't find anything, or didn't put the right words into the search engine.
One thing that concerns me is that Santander might already wise to this, and only give one person one free time period for usage of the card.
If anyone has any experience of this, or has done this before (recently), please comment.
Kind regards,
Jonathan
