I liked this family the most as they genuinely seemed like they needed help and at last the gurner and his sidekick were able to offer it. Was lovely to see the dad enjoying real food again instead of his usual red onion salad.
The opening credits to every episode seemed to show an extra family (a couple of ladies who said they were ashamed of the food on the table?) I wonder why this hasn't been shown or am I missing something?Grocery challenge June 2016

Just caught up with this episode.I liked this family. No OTT hysteria when she found out about the water:)Sadly no recipes for me this week though
I am surprised that things got as far as they did...onion salad for 6 years? There were intelligent people, why didn't they just turn to the internet for dietary advice?Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I agree they were nice people and whilst I appreciate they may not have been given very much help from Gps etc surely there's enough info available now to manage his condition better than that.
I can't tolerate grains at all, including rice and oatmeal and I also have to limit my exposure to plants from the nightshade family so potatoes have to be an occasional treat.
So I eat a largely Paleo style diet although I do also include dairy. I have found the Internet to be a goldmine of information, dietary advice and recipes. Once you get used to a new way of eating it's actually very easy and not all that restrictive.
The only thing I will say is that eating out can be an issue. Proper restaurants aren't a problem, it's the coffee shop type places that are difficult so I just take my own snacks when out and about.
It was good to see him getting such a kick out of eating real food again.0 -
Not tested yet for coeliacs as the Dr and dietitian wants my little boy 16months to put weight on first before going back on gluten for the test.
The trouble is how to work around the issues as alternatives are so expensive. We are a family of 6 with extra 2 at weekend. Safe bread, pasta, cereals and flours are triple the price sometimes even more than that of normal items. Alternative milk isn't cheap either even when on offer. I'm so stressed with it at the moment.
If your husband has been Tested he can get a lot of things on prescription. Some chemists are more aware then others - my mum will only go to asda pharmacy as they order her the right bread.
Look online when she was first diagnosed she got a lot of free samples and found many coupons. She then cheekily ordered some to my sisters house too as they kept messing up her prescriptions and was initially struggling to find shops that stocked stuff. Morrisons where I live is the place to go.
Hope you figure it out soon.

yes I've been waiting for them too. At the end of the prog they were shown to be on the next episode. Looks like they are focusing on organic and superfoods Etc. But when it will be shown is anyone's guess! Last nights episode was listed as 5th out of a series of 6weaving through the chaos...0 -
Hello everyone
I didn't realise this series was back on but have watched it before and been amazed and annoyed at how ridiculous the families are. It's as though there is no-one there with any brain capacity left to organise the households meals. Sign of the times, I always thought.
Having read most of this thread, you guys are all in a much stronger position than this programme is to help people out. You have more info, more awareness and are basically already doing it much better. I'm in the middle ground between the people on this programme and all you frugal peeps on here.
So basically what I'm politely asking is...can you please help me? I can be your first test case, basically 'Eat well for less...on mse!'
I spend £250 per month for me and OH on food, toiletries, cleaning products and stuff for the cat, litter and food. I think this is outrageously expensive but OH think it's ok. I meal plan, we don't overeat, we're not seduced by brands and we don't throw food out.
I don't understand why we spend so much.
If anyone on here is up for a challenge and wants to help me, then I would truly appreciate any thoughts and comments.
If on the other hand it looks like a thread hijack  then let me know and I'll put this somewhere else.
Thank you. :AIf you know you have enough, you're rich.0 -

You have come to the right board for help
Start a new thread though, it will get missed here
What we need to know is what is it you do actually like to eat and what's a typical weeks menu. Oh and how many meals a day do you shop for ?0 -
Thanks for getting back to me.
I'll start a new thread on the old style board and call it 'Eat Well For Less...Live on MSE'
Ooh this is exciting!
