We've swapped Generali and Rugged for a racist, bigoted old man.

This is how forums die. Been fun while it lasted.

Being consistent, Rugged has always had a downer on certain groups in society.

He has never been very keen on landlords, due to the housing pressures down in his region.

He also feels short changed by the older generation.

Both of these grievances pre-dated the EU referendum, but suddenly it's as though a simple binary vote created all this tension.

    It didn't.
  • While I'm not aware of that particular post (or poster for that matter) I would guess theres a difference between stating an opinion and writing personal insults directly towards other posters.

I agree with this statement. People are entitled to an opinion without suffering name calling and I sometimes worry so much that I do not post at all.
I am pleased that we are going to leave the EU but really struggle with what seems to me the unabated name calling.

Lots of good wishes to every single person in the coming months - it may be hard initially but it will pass.

    Back to the positives.

German company Siemens employ 14000 in the UK and wrote to them all telling them how difficult it would be if we dared to vote Brexit and their jobs may be on the line.

Now we have indeed voted Brexit they've apparently had a change of plan. They have vowed to continue investment in the UK after all.

    Fancy that.

Our employment rates were indeed signs of a great economy. Let's wait and see the rates in the months and years to come, shall we? :)

Great economies aren't built on consumer spending boosted by PPI payouts. Rebalancing of the UK economy has been going on for years. Without any success. The UK sits at the top of the tree when it comes to consumer debt as well. Personally I prefer the German culture. Save then spend. As certainly paying dividends now.

Back to the original question. Yesterday felt like a positive move forward. (I am no fan of May or anyone else).

Whatever her Brexit views. She certainly isn't a DC clone. Very much a pragmatist. So expect to see subtle changes in policy direction very quickly.

Cobra beer is most certainly made in, and was created in the UK.

Assuming it comes from India as it's a man of Indian origins that created it is rather fanciful, and I would guess, in some respects, quite insulting.

Cobra is run by a man of Indian descent. He sells a product which is marketed to play on his Indian Heritage. The product was developed to be consumed with Indian food. The initial growth in sales was targeted towards Indian restaurants.

Only on this site would an assumption that the product was made in India be seen as somewhat insulting rather than successful marketing.

It's not even that fanciful an assumption given the product was actually developed in conjunction with an Indian brewery which brewed and exported to the UK for some years.

I said this many times in dicussion time on this board before the vote.

Can you imagine the costs for siemens to set up a factory elsewhere, find and hire all their employees again and the administrative burden and costs?

Same with that comapny who makes wings for aeroplanes. The boss was warning that this is the only factory that makes said wings, but they would have to relocate. Again, can you imagine the costs of setting up such an individual factory and production line...rehiring such specialist staff....training, admin costs, redundancy etc?

I said at the time the costs and headache of relocating would have them staying here. And 2 days after the result of the referendum the boss of the wing company said they are a worldwide business and therefore face challenges from around the world, they will stay and deal with being outside of the EU. And now Siemens are saying the same.

Was all threats and nothing more. The costs of moving such massive scale business is just too high.

So he was lying before the referendum. How do you know he's not lying now?

Would have preferred a PM who campaigned for Brexit but she appears determined to make Brexit happen and is a safe pair of hands.

Wonder what she meant by "...giving people more control of their lives"

    Oh, just a hunch. ;)

And the fact that so many similar statements made before the referendum have also turned out to be bogus.
