Certainly phone Shelter for housing advice but remember that rent is a priority bill. If after paying your rent, council tax and food you can't afford to repay debts or other bills so be it. Call National Debtline, Step Change or CAP UK for free debt advice.0

Depression is a very serious illness. Please do no treat mental illness differently from physical illnesses. If it helps you can think of someone with depression as having an illness like cancer. Both can kill you.0 -

True, but the OP didn't ask for advice on depression but on what to do about the rent increases. Therefore his comment whilst might appear harsh is a solution. Move house to somewhere cheaper with 2 bedrooms which the tax payer can afford to support.

Landlords are told to treat their sealing as a business. This goes both ways. It means they need to follow strict and complex rules and unfortunately it means that in some cases they also don't care about people personal circumstances as no other business would. Also what do we know of their circumstances. Maybe they got made redundant leaving them with little income that is also leaving them stressed and depressed.
OP you need to see if you can get help but ultimately you need to think if the future. Will you ever be able to afford it? If not you might need to consider downsizing to a property you can afford.0
