I can put a container under mine as it isn't right at floor level and releasing the lint trap slowly means it doesn't flood the floor as I can control the flow. I've done this twice now and not had a flooding problem. It isn't a Hotpoint though.

You can drain a broken down front loader by lowering the outlet pipe and emptying into a bucket. You just have to be smart about raising the pipe before the bucket over flows.
