Halifax re-opening closed PPI complaints (again!)

I logged some PPI complaints against Lloyds Banking Group and their brand 'Halifax' in 2012 and they paid out on the credit cards but not on the loans.
I thought about going to the FOS, but never did and thought "such is life" and left it.
In 2013 they wrote to me saying that they had reviewed my complaints and were paying out on the loans as well. I banked the cheque and appreciated the timing - I'd just got back from holiday - and considered that chapter closed.
I got a call today from Halifax saying that they were reviewing the PPI complaint on a secured loan I'd had with them! I'd assumed that this had been included somewhere along the line and therefore had already paid out, so had no intention of every contacting them again about it.
They asked me lots of questions and I was as honest as I could be considering the loan was taken out in 2000! It may come to nothing but I just wondered if anyone else had had this experience?

Lots of people. They have been revisiting claims and sometimes this can reveal a product being missed or not calculated correctly.0

I can't believe this is still going on!
All these people who had PPI need to learn to take responsibility for their actions and shouldn't sign up to financial products they don't understand!.
I really hope this all ends soon!0 -

I made this complaint in 2012 and had accepted the decision from Lloyds/Halifax that they weren't going to pay out. They contacted me to say that they were re-opening the complaint.
As for your comment about people signing up for products that they don't understand, it's down to the company selling those products that need to ensure people DO understand them.0 -

No I definitely do not agree with that. Yes the company should not knowingly sell a product to someone who clearly doesn't know what they are buying. BUT people need to take more responsibility for what they are signing up to.
So many people sign up to financial products without even reading the key points of the agreement. These people need to take some responsibility for their actions. People can't expect to be treated like babies and be looked after making sure they don't make a mistake!.
I've always actively refused PPI because I know that due to my full pay while off sick I would never need it. The first time I applied for credit and was offered PPI I made sure I understood what it was before making my decision. So if I can do it then why can't others?.0 -

Huge mix of some or all of the following:
High pressure sales (back in the days people more likely to believe the bank or a salesman saying it was needed)
Not understanding and being embarrassed to ask
Pre-ticked boxes on online applications (opt out)
Plus
Try it on people who knew about the PPI and want a payoutSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
