Delightful buyers

This forum seems heavily filled with doom and gloom and people posting about various problems they are encountering. Certainly I've done the same.
Well I'd like to share a slightly more positive story.
We'd never met the people who bought our old house, communicating only via the agent. (We met the people from whom we bought and they were extremely difficult people, and we want nothing to do with them.)
Last night I went over to the old house to collect some post that had not been redirected - the new owners kindly let me know about it via the agent.
I expected it to be an in & out job. But they invited me in for a drink, and we chatted for ages. They really like the house, the street, the neighbours, the new town. They like the pond that came with the house, and we chatted about filters, blanket weed, fish, child safety, etc, for a long time.
They thanked me for writing a how-to guide or cheat sheet with tips about using the house, and expressed their gratitude at how useful it was.
They said how excited they were about making the house their family home, and how much of an improvement it was on the old flat.
We swapped numbers, I wonder if we could even become friends.

That's it really. Just a nice outcome through an all-round expensive and potentially stressful situation.
I wish the same outcome for you all in your future transactions.

Yup. People tend to post here because they've got problems, and need help.

So it's refreshing to hear a success story, and a useful reminder that most sales, tenancies, etc. actually go smoothly, and even end up with people making new friends.

    Thanks for sharing.

I have to say, I still thank my lucky stars we found the buyer we did. He was no trouble and not pushy during the sale, gave a decent offer and didn't mess around and wasn't phased by what were essentially minor issues that some other buyers treated as if the place was unliveable. And I have MSE to thank for some extent, as I was initially wary of him, given tales I'd heard of cash buyers, as he was.

I asked here if we should accept, and was roundly assured cash buyers were usually much more reliable to FTBs (for example) and that helped swing us to take his offer, which by waiting we'd got him to put up somewhat to a point that we were happy with. I'm really glad he came along, it would have been much more stressful without someone like him.

Funny you should post this. I moved into my lovely new house at the end of 2014. My vendor was really nice - he took the house off the market even though I had no buyer, waited 9 weeks for me to sell, and let me move in a day before completion so I could get the house ready before moving my cats in that evening, which meant I could clean my old flat on completion day for my buyers. We chatted a few times but I've not seen / heard from him since the day I collected the keys from him.

The other half of the property is owned by my vendor's best mate. The best mate is now selling his half (wish I could afford it and re-convert into one building, but sadly I can't!).

The two of them came down the other week to re-paint and re-carpet the place next door so it's looking good for potential buyers. I took them cups of tea and biscuits to keep them going through the day as the house is empty and they have no kettle facilities etc. I recognised my vendor immediately and we got chatting about my house. He'd been so sad to sell it, but he told me the reason he waited so long for me to sell my flat was because I clearly loved the property and he wanted it to go to someone who'd genuinely take care of it. He clearly wanted to look round again, so I invited him over, and he loves the changes I've made and wishes he'd thought of some of them! He's now given me details of a couple of tradesmen for some additional work I need doing, so it's been really nice re-connecting with him!

It's great when it all works out so well. :)
' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".

My last buyers were a PITA! MY vendors on he other hand were lovely :) House was spotless when I moved in, all instruction books for appliances left for me in a folder, the father of the woman who was here had helped build the place and has been back to help me put the finishing touches to it without ripping me off ;) and pointed me in the direction of other good trades people, and told me the ones to avoid! They drop in for a coffee every now & then, always stop for a chat if I meet up with them anywhere, I couldn't have asked for nicer folk :T

I often think that the problems people have with their buyers/sellers could well be cause by lack of direct contact, messages getting garbled by EAs & solicitors etc. I've always preferred to have direct contact, most problems can be solved with a bit of sensible conversation ;)
