Freesat not recording SOME of the time.

We have had freesat for about six years and it has been ideal for our needs. The programs we like, we record and watch them in recorded state then if anyone calls we can put them on hold (yes, I know its sad). Irrespective of whether it's a "one-off" program or series, when we set to record,a letter L appears and when the program is actually recording or when it has finished, that letter L changes to R. I have no idea what the L stands for, have you?.
When we are setting a program to record, we're given the option to record in SD or HD and always select SD.
During the last month, programs that we have set to record, ie ITV Emmerdale 7.00pm (channel 103) and ITV Corrie 7.30pm (channel 103) haven't recorded but if we notice this, we quickly jump to Channel 112 (I think it is) and record ITV+1 which is an hour later and that records, but 9 times out of 10, at this late stage, what should have recorded earlier, now appears in the list of recorded programs. Yet when we attempt to play that earlier version, it says "failed to record".
Last night wasa prime example, so before we went to bed, we randomly set two programs to record, one was on 103 ITV (SD Good Morning Britain) and the other 112 ITV (HD Lorraine) and both recorded. It just as though that period from 7pm and 9pm is causing a problem. I know it's a long winded post but felt chapter and verse info might help you to throw an idea my way.

I think the L is a representation of a clock face indicating a timed recording. It may well not be though.
If you always record Emmerdale and Corrie why not just do series records? If you watch the stuff pretty much as you record it and don't maintain a library why not go for HD - the picture is noticeably better.
Programs transmit an identifier with them to control recording but that is the responsibility of the broadcaster and ITV can be a bit lax at times. You may or may not have noticed but there has been some football or other recently on TV and the schedules have been messed about a lot - I suspect that may be the root of your recording issues. My wife likes those two soaps and they are on series record and sfaik none got missed. That was on Freeview rather than Freesat though which may have been different.0 -
Without knowing which DVR you are using it'll be difficult for anyone to suggest anything other than the most generic solutions.0

Kiwi reads, we do set it for series record, but think I will get up and change them all to HD and see what happens. Yes, we did wonder about the football interfering.
