Wood stain / wax query

We have just bought a new knowle settee which has wooden knobs. These will come as natural, untreated white wood and I am at a loss as to what product to use to colour them. Our other furniture is mid oak.
Years ago I used to use a wonderful product called One Coat by Ronseal. Rubbed on with a cloth and built up to produce a nice depth of colour and matt finish. I can't find this product on the B & Q shelves any more.
Scared of ruining the wood by using the wrong thing or getting a patch finish. Could anyone advise re the benefits of stain/wax and suggest a good shade to give a nice mid oak finish?
Cheers

Shade is going to be trial and error as it partly depends on the base shade of the wood to which it's being applied. Can you try different shades in an inconspicuous place e.g. on any part that won't be seen? It's also possible to get chlorine-free wood bleach to remove any stain, if necessary. Essentially, hydrogen peroxide.
Also, go to a proper decorators merchant for a better range of wood treatment products. I've always used LiberonWarning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

Thanks DFC,
Had a look on the Liberon site and think I will try Tint and Wax in medium oak. Have you ever used Tint and Oak? Even found a local stockist on the site.Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0
