Mobile phone problem

Hi,
My daughter has an iPhone 6s. It's not on contract, it was bought outright. She made the 'BIG' mistake of leaving it in her fleece pocket which then went in the wash. It's obviously not working. I'm just wondering if anyone could suggest the best and cheapest way to get it repaired/replaced. I currently have a First Direct account which I could upgrade to a First Directory for £15 per month which would give me mobile phone insurance. Question is how long do I have to hold the account for, before claiming on it? Also could I get the phone fixed then cancel the policy?
Are there any better alternatives I'm missing?
Many thanks,
Richard.

You cannot buy insurance after the fact.
As soon as they get it checked they will see the phone stopped working before the policy date and slap a fraud marker on your file.
Its uninsured then buy something cheaper and tell her to look after it. Try a Sony Aqua, they are waterproof.
If you claim on a policy the full premium will usually need to be paid in full.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
lol just googled the cost of that phone. £600!
buy a cheaper smartphone. something like £100 will suffice.

Have you tried to dry out the phone and its battery in a bowl of uncooked rice?It might be a little late to do this now (think it should be done immediately),but worth a try.Good luck xxSPC #36 :staradminx 8.SPC7=£751.10 SPC8=£651.04 SPC9=£843.00 SPC10=£872.76

How old is she ?
If she is young then get her a cheaper phone and she uses it until she can afford to buy her own iPhone, maybe stick an Apple logo on the back so it looks like iPhone.0 -
No, we're not going to help you commit insurance fraud.
All dodgy claims like this do is push premiums up for the rest of us who stick to the rules and pay for insurance before the event.0 -
You can't claim for things that happen before you took out the policy, as you weren't insured then. If you try to do this they will inspect the phone and see the phone broke before policy was taken out, and you'd get the policy cancelled and a fraud marker.
If you did upgrade your account for the insurance and claimed later on (for something else), you won't be able to just cancel that insurance without financial penalty. As it's likely to be an annual policy attached to your bank account, so likely you'd have to pay cancellation charges as well as either the cost of the claim or the cost of the full years premium.0 -
As others have said, the date of incident cannot be prior to date of inception.
If it's an iPhone 6S, it will be less than one year old. Therefore, Apple should be able to swap it out for a reduced fee (£300 or so springs to mind) as it will still be in warranty. Rice / airing cupboard etc. will not work - this is urban myth. The phone will almost certainly be beyond economical repair and need replacing.
