Check Out Fees

Hi there,
When I took up my tenancy 4 years ago, it was with a different agent and has subsequently changed agent after 3 years. My question is when I have ended my tenancy the new agent has advised me of check out fees, which I had not been made aware of at any point until I advised I did not want to renew my tenancy. In the past I have paid tenancy renewal charges (£180) from them which I was also not advised of until it was due, and I have paid reference fees (£30). The check out fee of £190 is the last straw....am I obliged to pay this? There is no mention of this in my agreement.

No. If it's not in your agreement you don't pay it.

We're having a similar issue at the moment, we've handed in our notice and been sent a letter advising of an exit fee we weren't previously aware of.

We've been here six years so I think it's a new charge they've introduced during that time and they're just trying their luck.

It's not in our agreement, so we're not paying it.
Mum to three little boys. Long time lurker!

Jumping on to the housing ladder - we've exchanged! Woop! Completion set for 15th July.

Unless this exit fee actually relates to something (like a check out report) its probably not enforceable anyway
