iPhone Query re Photos and Cloud

Hi there, can someone help with an iPhone query, about which I know nowt! My fabulous father has a new iPhone with which he has taken a number of photos and videos. Now, he has an iCloud allowance (this I know, in fact, he says he has loads, he is paying 79p a month to get extra). Problem is, when I look at his Settings, the iCloud photos content and the iPhone content don't match up in terms of GB usage. He wants to free up some space on his actual phone as it says it's low on memory. Thing is, he daren't delete his pics from the hard drive until he knows they are the ones saved in the Cloud. So, for instance, his phone is saying he has used 5gb of photos storage, and yet the cloud says it only has 3gb. The box appears to be checked that says it automatically uploads new photos to the cloud as they are taken. Any help gratefully received. My Dad is 90 and I can't not be able to help him with a techno query, surely!!! Cheers, Tabs

Checking gb match isn't something I do, but I do check that the number of actual photos match between devices. You can also optimise phone storage from the photo settings. This will reduce resolution on the device with originals stored on the cloud.
Anything you delete off the phone will be removed from the cloud if it is synced with it.0 -
Well your Dad is paying £0.79/month for 50GB of iCloud storage so it shouldn't be running low on memory.
I say that because when your Dad connects to Wi-Fi the photographs are automatically uploaded to iCloud and aren't included in the iCloud back up.
Next time you see your Dad tap Settings>iCloud>Storage and 'Buy More Storage'. Underneath 'Current Plan' it should say 50GB (rather than 5GB Free).
Don't want to bamboozle you or your Dad but another option is Google Photos. They can be saved in the original resolution (the Drive comes with 15GB 'free') or you can save unlimited photos at a lower resolution.
Edit: if your Dad logs into iCloud from a computer are all of the pictures showing there? It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
