Tronic 2400 mAh AA Rechargeable Batteries from Lidl - Warning

A warning to anyone who has purchased AA rechargeable batteries from Lidl this June. Priced at £2.99 for a pack of 4, these seemed like a bargain - especially as they are the type that can hold their charge while they are stored.

Unfortunately there have been a number of reports in other forums that some of these batteries have nothing like their claimed capacity. My tests indicate that they only have half their stated capacity - i.e. 1200mAh rather than 2400mAh.

If anyone has purchased these batteries, and is disappointed with their performance, then there is a fairly easy check which does not require specialist test equipment. According to Lidl, each cell should weigh 28.5g. My defective cells weigh significantly less - around 19g.

I think the smaller AAA cells are OK and the older Tronic 2300mAh cells sold in previous years are also fine.
