Car insurance

When I pass my driving test, I'll want to buy a car but I don't get how to do the insurance? So I buy the car and then can I immediately phone up an insurance company and get covered?
I'm assuming once I buy the car and I officially own it, I can just phone and get the tax, insurance etc that same day?

Yes you can. Once you have bought the car you can phone up the insurance company (if you know which one you want to go with) straight away and get cover then and there. If you have access to the internet at the time (such as a mobile phone) then i would personally apply for insurance via the internet as you can compare several different quotes at once (if you use a comparison website such as gocompare.com or comparethemarket.com) and you will usually get cheaper quotes.
You can also tax the vehicle online then and there as well (if the vehicle doesn't have tax already).0 -
Get some quotes first before buying a car, when you find out how much insurance will cost a new driver you may get a shock.0

Thanks. I've already gone through a quote website and yes the insurance is ludicrous.0

Even if the car has a valid road fund tax it can not be transferred to a new owner.
OP will need to apply for the road fund tax, before driving the car.0 -
I wanted a renewal quote from Octagon for my car insurance, I knew it would go up as I'd ended up with points on my licence. When they wanted to double my monthly repayments I cancelled and went with another company. Octagon have been chasing me for an extra £300 ever since, even though my year's cover is long since over and paid for. They insist that the year's cover would have been more expensive had they known about the points.I realise now that you're supposed to tell your insurance company about points immediately, I thought it was just at renewal. A specialist solicitor and an insurance underwriter have told me that Octagon have no legal grounds to demand the additional fee, so I ignored their letters, but I'm now getting texts, emails and letters from a debt collection company. Does anybody else have any experience of this situation?0

They either chase you for upto 6 years and you ignore them and hope they dont take you to court or settle it.
They are unlikely to give up before the 6 years unless you didpute it and show them that you do not owe the money.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
