Have I been declined?

I made a online application with Hsbc for a credit card.
I rang up to check and no details of my application were on the system .
The guy said if your application had been refered it would of showed something.
But there was nothing.
Do you think that means it was unsuccessful?
I'm worrying as my employer sometimes doesn't answer the phone and for Hsbc called about my application they might of not answered the call and that's why it was declined.

Il just add my credit record isn't too good either about 525 score.
Would it just of been decined on application?

I have taken out many credit cards in the past and they never once called my employer.

You credit score is meaningless so dont worry about that.

If you received an email with a reference number when you applied quote that to them.

No I never received any email or reference
After I pressed submit it came back with we will contact you within 7-10 working days.

Do you have a current account with them? If so, they'll send you a message via Secure Message within a few days stating 'You've been accepted, your limit is £xxxx, please sign and return the paperwork we've posted to you', otherwise it'll be a 'Sorry, we cannot offer you a credit card'.

Try calling again, their customer service is..... hit and miss. If I remember correctly, there were 2 systems, 1 for applications made online, and 1 for applications made via branch. If they cannot find the application, it maybe best to run through another over the phone. They'll give you an immediate decision.

Same thing happened with my application. Said I had a 80% chance so applied over a week ago but haven't heard anything in either email or post.

I applied for an HSBC card and got approved online immediately. Paperwork took about a month to arrive which I then sent back signed. That was two months ago. Since then, nothing.

Strange... when i applied for my hsbc credit card all was done online, accepted instantly, and no paperwork. It showed on my online banking within seconds. But i have been banking with them - main account - for over 10 years.

I think it's instant if you're registered with online banking else you just get a thanks we'll be in touch message.
